Motherboard for multiple PERC RAID cards

I'm going to be re-building my server in the next few months. I now have two PERC5/i's and a PERC6/i that I'll be using.

Before I was using a AMD 780 based system as the Intel boards at the time didn't play well with the RAID cards without a pin mod, which I wasn't happy doing. I know the X58 motherboards work with these cards, but I'm not into spending £150 on a board and a minimum of £200 on a CPU, after all, I'll need to get some DDR3 memory as well.

It doesn't have to be a killer system, this is just being used as bulk file storage for the time being. I'll be going for a low end CPU in whatever socket I end up with. The motherboard will need either three PCIe 16x slots and on board graphics, of four PCIe 16x.

It looks like a AMD 990 motherboard will work just fine, and I can get that, CPU and memory for under £200, which is fine by me!

    Anyone got any input?

It might be worth looking at workstation or server class motherboards. The performance will be a little less but they should be more reliable. ECC RAM isn't that pricey if it's not registered and working out which RAM to use can be a little more complex to make sure you get the right DIMMS.

    Just my thoughts for now.

Hit ebay and get a used server for under £200. Plenty of 3 year old Xeon based machines floating around for next to nothing specced up to the hilt.
