Asus p8z68- v Onboard audio not working?

Had my asus board for a week now, had only just removed my creative card to add in a second 460.... havent put it back in yet so thought id use the onboard for a bit and well i cant find it, ive installed drives but no devices detected ive tried plugging in numerous things and still nout.

Any ideas on how to get the onboard working?

Check it's enabled in BIOS first, then in Windows (device manager or audio source selection).

thanks kalneil... my own stupidity has striked again, i disabled all onboard sound when i got it! So thanks for pointing that out (i sorted it just after i posted lol).

However i guess there is another annoying issue, ever since i got it im having a 2 lots of booting, it gets to the asus screen for a few seconds (presume POST) and reboots and does it again and then loads the OS, cant find any reason why its doing that and good hasnt been helpful >.<

What is the onboard like compared to the soundcard?

Sorry, don't mean to revive this thread, but I'm having the same problem. However, mine started completely randomly. First, my sound has been working since I got the computer a month or two ago. Today, my graphics seemed to be messing up so I switched ram slots from blue to black as people stated it could be a ram issue. I turned on my computer and the graphics problem went away, but the sound just stopped working. I touched nothing but the ram. Now I've been going through every possible solution; headphones and speakers don't work when plugged in, I've checked the settings and everything is fine device wise, etc. The sound is displayed as playing through the mixer when I turn on any kind of sound, but obviously there is none. Plugging in my TV through HDMI allows me to play sound through the TV coming from the computer, but the sound is still unable to come from speakers or any device. I even put the ram back in the blue slots to try and fix it. BIOS shwos it enabled, and I even tried restoring defaults despite not touching anything.

My final thought would be something happened to the actual onboard audio and it shorted out, or decided it would stop working. I'm wondering if there's some kind of ASUS (it is an ASUS) or other diagnostic tool to check and see if the onboard audio is properly functioning from a hardware perspective. Otherwise, I don't know what else to check. All windows and bios indicators say it's working fine.

Any help or knowledge on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Assuming you have Installed all the relevant drivers, check the sound option in windows control panel.

Windows 7 does clever things in allowing default devices for system dound, communications devices and so on, particularly if you use things like USB headphones or cameras with built in microphones.

Sometimes it gets a bit too clever assigning functions to devjces that may have been unplugged.

Sorry for not answering, was tied up in trying to fix my sound
    Did you try this?
If the board is double POSTing, this can be solved be either disabling TPU (if you turned it on) and/or setting BCLK manually to 100.0 MHz in the AI Tweaker section of UEFI (set AI Overclock Tuner to Manual to see the BCLK option).

^Replace (dot) with ., can't post links yet. Just to show my system recognized it working, shows it playing volume, diagnostics show it functioning, set to default, no muted, and shown in device manager. Really baffled as to why a restart would make it not work...

I know this is an old post but I have EXACTLY the same problem now with my Asus P8Z68 V-Pro on board sound. It shows that headphones or speakers are connected and also indicates that sound is being played but there is not sound. Also tried the motherboard I/O and front panel connectors but the same thing. Did you resolve this?
