    Hi,

According to Asus website Z68 Maximus IV Extreme-Z supports Intel 22nm processors since 0902 bios.

You can always use 'USB BIOS Flashback' to update motherboard without entering BIOS or Windows by using a USB flash disk drive under standby power.

What about 'USB BIOS Flashback' - you should be able to just put your new CPU and update bios when system is under standby power.

Check download section for your MB on Asus website:

Version IE6715 Maximus IV Extreme-Z user’s insertpage (English)

Thanks for that this was purchased December 2011 so im hoping its not first BIOS but how can you tell if its never been used and if I try the USB BIOS FLASHBACK how do you know if its upgraded the bios?

I might just sell the Z68 and go for the P8Z77-V DELUXE as this is said to be a better overclocker as its reached 7GHz

    From IE6715 document:
    "...
4.Turn off the system and connect the USB flash drive to the ROG Connect port (the white USB 2.0 port) at the rear panel of the motherboard
    5. Hold the ROG Connect button until the LED begins to blink, then release
    6. Wait until the LED stops to blink, then the BIOS flash will be completed.:

I was thinking to get PRO version of this motherboard, but decided to go with GA-Z77X-UD5H. According to many threads, in UK Gigabyte has much better after sale support then Asus (for example RMA center in UK not in Holland).
