Upgrade the mem, but it won't play ball.

I've upgraded the RAM in my little Foxconn 45CMX (Intel 945 chipset) motherboard from 2 x 1GB 667mhz to 2 x 2GB 800mhz. However, the machine now will not post and I don't have another motherboard to test it on.

Officially the board supports up to 667mhz RAM. So is this likely to be the reason it doesn't work? I was hoping it'd just run the memory at a slower speed. If that was the case, would I be able to set the memory timings manually with the working memory in then swap the modules over to force it to run the memory at that speed?

I've tried the RAM with just one stick in, in either socket. Cleared the CMOS, all the usual things. It doesn't beep up or anything. The fans whir up, the hard drives kick in, but no video or post.

Does sound like it's just incompatible. Boooo.

You may need to flash the BIOS first, if there's still a later version available. Since you said it's Foxconn, I really doubt it, but it's worth a shot.

BIOS is the lastest unfortunately. I think I'll take the memory in to uni tomorrow and ask the guys behind the tech counter to test it for me, so I at least know whether the memory works or not.
