Advise on a good second hand LGA775 board.

    Hi there,

I am looking to build my son an uber budget PC and have picked up 3GB of DDR2 (2*1GB and 2*512MB), a 7800 GTS (My old card) and a E4500 C2D processor.

He really wants to be able to play KOTOR and I am now on the lookout for a motherboard to suit!

I have not been involved in hardware for some time, are brands like ASROCK still to be avoided? Anyone have any leads on good cheap boards?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks for reading.

    Rysz.

A motherboard based on an Intel G31 chipset would do the job nicely. Usually go for around £20-30 on ebay.

In my experience, you can't go too far wrong with any motherboard these days, if it has an Intel chipset. Anything I've built over the last 7 years or so has been rock solid; very little stability problems. My brother on the other hand, has built systems around Nvidia or VIA chipsets and always seems to have some issue.
