    Asus P8H67-M Evo fans

I have an Asus P8H67-M Evo that I'm just building up into a case with 2 case fans. It has a chassis fan header, a cpu fan header and a pwr fan header. My question is can I safely plug one of the case fans into the pwr fan header and if I can will I be able to use speedfan or similar to control the rpm? There are some people (from googling) who seem to reckon you should never plug anything but one of those old psu fan connectors into the pwr fan header but that seems a bit outdated.

There is no reason why you cannot do it but, I'm not sure you'll be able to control the speed of a fan connected to that fan header.

Also be careful not to plug in a high current fan or it could damage the motherboard.

My personal preference is still to use a dedicated fan controller. they might not be cheap but, It takes away all risk of damaging the motherboard.

    Re: Asus P8H67-M Evo fans

It wouldn't be a high current fan but if I can't control it then I might as well just run it off molex.

Fan controllers are a bit of a hassle with my case, and I wanted one with some usb 3 outputs but they don't exist.

Anyone have an idea? Would probably only be temporary until newer fan controllers come out, my other option I suppose is a splitter for the chassis fan header but I'm wary about that.

EDIT: nvm, this board doesn't have any usb 3 headers! Maybe I should just buy a cheap fan controller

Yes that's an option you can do. It is safe but remember you are adding more load wattage to the motherboard through its circuitry, capacitors and other components. It is still more advisable to have it powered separately, directly from the power supply
