Exclamation VIA® VT1708S Audio Codec onboard sound, keeps sticking when playing music!

    Hi All

My Creative x-fi extream music PCI card died on me the other day so ripped it out and enabled the onboard sound on the Motherboard.
I was quite surprised how good the onboard VIA® VT1708S Audio Codec sounds apart from one big problem.

Every 3 minutes so to speak while playing music the tracks the music will freeze for a second like when a CD ships and i don't know why but it is really bugging me as i love my music.
Have updated the drivers from the Asrock site, and also tried connecting via SPDIF but still happening.

Would like to sort this but if not then looks like i will be getting another sound card (PCI express one).

Cheers for your time and help.

Obvious thing to do is to run a system monitor and see if there's any CPU/memory/disk usage spikes that match with the pauses - that will help determine whether there's a system resource problem. Assuming there isn't (seems unlikely) try rolling back drivers, or uninstalling it completely and reinstalling; also try using the default MS driver. Also, make sure that all traces of the old Creative drivers have been removed, in case they're causing a driver conflict.

I once had a support call for a computer that had started echoing and distorting really badly on music playback and that was as simple as Windows update downloading a new driver that the computer didn't like. A quick rollback (to the default MS audio drivers, interestingly) sorted the problem

    Check for DPC latency:

    http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml

A rogue driver could be sending system interrupts that causes the problem. Instructions in the link will help you see if there's a problem.

Cheers for the help, will try using just defualt windows drivers for it but hope i dont lose the VIA control panel as has some nice features. Have also made sure all creative drivers have been removed. What do you recommend using as a system monitor? Task manager?

    Cheers

Think its fixed HAHA, I downloaded all the drivers including the onboard audio driver off the Asrock site for my MOBO, but then noticed that the date for the Audio driver was dated back in 2009 So tried the VIA website and they had 2012 drivers which has seemed to have fixed the problem Cheers

Re: VIA® VT1708S Audio Codec onboard sound, keeps sticking when playing music!

Only problem i have found now and dont know if anyone else has this problem but is i have an app that makes a short 1 sec beep sound then it does not play as the SPDIF has like gone to sleep mode. This is not a problem if playing music or movies as continues sound is stopping SPDIF going to sleep.

Any one found a way round this?
