PCI Card Adapter for my Motherboard

Not sure if this should be posted in the Graphic Card section ?

I purchased a Graphics Card which has a PCI-EX16 fitting, I thought I could fit this into one of my 32 bit master PCI BUS slots, obviously the fittings are different … I accept I should have checked this but I honestly thought most if not all PCI cards would fit into most PCI Slots
    ( My Motherboard is a K7N2 Delta2 ) the Graphics Card = Nvidia Geforce 7600GT PCI-E * 128MB DDR

I also noticed that the Graphics Card also supports AGP 8X/4X,PCI BUS ... and my Motherboard also has ONE AGP Slot 3.0,8X

The card does not fit in the AGP slot either but an adapter might work here ? ...does such an adapter exist ? and if so can anybody suggest an adapter that might bridge the Card to the AGP Slot.

Thank you for your help here

The "adapters" in question are specialist chips, embedded onto the AGP versions of some cards, to translate AGP to/from PCIe. Graphics cards started speaking PCIe natively & internally years ago - well before the 7600 - so these kinds of converter chips were the only way to build AGP cards

There is no way for a consumer to turn their PCIe card into their AGP slot.

Despite the name, PCI Express (PCIe) and PCI have nothing in common.

PCI Express has been the norm for almost a decade now.

I would suggest looking for a PCI graphics card.

    Or AGP.

But in both cases, you'll need to buy used - nobody is making graphics cards for pre-2004 motherboards anymore

If you're on AGP, it might be time to consider a cheap upgrade?

You can get AMD chips and mobos for very cheap now. Might be worth considering?

    And RAM. That's nForce 2 - DDR1 RAM

I wasn't listing everything he might need, just pointing out that it's really cheap to build a system these days

4GB is about 15 quid. If his PSU is good, then you could upgrade the system for not far off a 100 quid. Depending on the graphic requirements, socket FM2 might also mean he wouldn't need a new card. Given that we're discussing a AGP system here, that's not unrealistic.

I have now finally decided to build a new system - I have been flogging this system for long enough now and these few replies have convinced me that its time to join the 21st Century -) with DDR2 RAM which is quicker that DDR

Thanks for your help - sometimes you just need the facts laid out for your bare and without bias and that is certainly what I have had here

    Cheers

Re: PCI Card Adapter for my Motherboard

You might want to jump right to DDR3 and skip DDR 2

Drop your budget in the hardware forum and I'm sure people will give you some ideas of what you can get for your cash

Re: PCI Card Adapter for my Motherboard

have a look at the other system suggestions threads, those will give you an idea of what you can get for a given amount of money. Should help with your negotiations

Oh and don't bank on being able to re-use any of your components. Might get away with your case, but probably not your power supply.
