New Motherboard for my Phenom 965

    Peeps

My exisiting motherboard is a DDR2 based one, a Gigbyte GA-MA770-UD3 rev 2.

Good board but it old DDR2 and it the weakest part of my rig.

Was looking to upgrade but not sure what to get. Of course the ASUS sabretooth is a nice board but am looking at getting a PCI-E 3.0 board if possible as my HD 7850 supports it.

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good one to get. I will be overclocking my 965.

I like the sabertooth but is it really worth the money. Will it let me overclock better?

Any advice given will gain you a virtual High 5.

    Cheers

Re: New Motherboard for my Phenom 965

Most Phenom II X4 CPUs top out at around 3.9GHZ ot 4.2GHZ at best,so I am not sure if a change will be make a hige difference. AMD does not have PCI-E 3.0 ATM,it actually only became more common with IB based CPUs this year,so even most Intel users are on PCI-E 2.0 ATM.

For your HD7850 2GB,PCI-E 3.0 will probably make little difference - I would just overclock the graphics card!!

Re: New Motherboard for my Phenom 965

Well am OCed to 3.8Ghz just now would like to get to 4GHz.

The better cooling on the Sabretooth VRMs is a big selling point too but would like to see other options. What are ASUS boards like?

Also what about the Chipsets for them. any big difference between 970, 990X or 990FX

Re: New Motherboard for my Phenom 965

    Yeah it's like 1% difference @ 1080p when compared to PCI-e 2.0.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
