Might as well, can't hurt
Well I Put the PCIe card back in re-booted 3 times and NO grey any more - so it looks like I got over the line here ( firewire card ) - but I have one slight irritant ... I keep getting this error message below (jpg)
I have disabled the OnBoard card as the manual suggests ( once you are using an external device ) .. I have scratched my head and can't quite work this one out ...
Ps I have gone over to the viewsonic monitor driver
Ps I have tried both of the error fixes and nothing seems to work
Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers or used driver cleaner to get rid of left over junk

Decided to take off the catalyst software -- its really only needed if I revert back to the OnBoard Chipset VGA board .. it really was just a manager message ( obviously got its nickers in a twist by being rejected for this new graphics card )
I have the most up to date Catalyst driver tool, so if I ever need to go back to the Onboard I will just reinstall it
This has been an amazingly useful exercise .. I have really learn't something here
Thanks for your time and patience with this 13.5 hours since I posted and it looks like I have this thing licked now
Have a good night
Corrie Resolved
Thanks for letting us know it's fixed
