I wouldn't say that SRT/SSD Caching is quite redundant yet, you can get a 60/64gb SSD for £50-£55 pount and use this with a large HDD with all of your system and data files on it without having to worry about space limitations or managing where applications are installed or data is kept. For an expert builder and seasoned PC enthusiast I would never suggest using a caching solution, but for someone that's either new to building PCs or returning to building PCs after a long break I would as that lets them get SSD benefits without having to deal with storage/space management overheads from the very start.

When I can get a 500gb SSD for less than £150 I would gladly get one of those and move all of my HDD OS and applications to that format then leave all of my data on either another SSD or a HDD with a cache SSD set up on it. Until that day, I prefer letting my PC do all of the work.

Installation may be a doddle, but it's just so much slower.
For someone who is planning on overclocking, watercooling and crossfire, I really think installing a proper SSD is going to be the least of his problems.

Don't get the XFX 7850, firstly XFX are awful and secondly it's way too expensive, I mean it's more expensive than a GTX660.
Try this cheaper and better model instead:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-m...00mhz-hdmi-mdp
This one is on today only for even cheaper!

This is assuming you want to crossfire later, otherwise get this:

    Re: i5 2500k - New PC -Overclocking + SLI

XFX? Wow, I did it again - didn't mean to put that there... Man I really have to be more diligent with those prefixes! That could have been an expensive mistake >.<
    Thanks for pointing that out.

In terms of the discussion between SRT/SSD - what I took from it is to install the operating system and some programs that I would like to load at start up on the SSD while using the HDD for the majority of everything else. I'm not really sure about what the SRT is - I'll look it up but it seems the SSD HDD setup should be fine according to the link you just posted Willzzz

Would it be correct to assume I should save and load all games off the SSD?

    Re: i5 2500k - New PC -Overclocking + SLI

    I would get this motherboard:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/gigab...b-dvi-d-hdmi-a

The hard drive is not 7200RPM so I would get this one instead:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1tb-s...he-8ms-ncq-oem

This PSU might be OTT,but it it semi-modular:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/750w-...eps-12v-atx-v2

    I would get this monitor:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Ultrash.../dp/B005MHMFJA

It has a great panel and a adjustable stand.

    Re: i5 2500k - New PC -Overclocking + SLI

Ok I'm planning on buying the following today.

I want to overclock, Xfire and dual monitor with these components (dual monitor after Xfire)

With that in mind, I'm going to purchase these within the hour, from the scan website, and maybe more (I will post in another reply if I will add something to my purchase list for today):

MSI HD7850 Twin Frozr OC AMD/ATI Graphics Card - 2GB

Seagate 1TB SATA 3 Performance Hard Drive OEM ST1000DM003

    8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Low Profile Jet Black PC3-12800 (1600MHz), Non-ECC, Unbuffered, CAS 11-11-11-30, 1.5V

Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H USB 3.0 Intel Z77 Socket 1155 Ivybridge Ready Motherboard with USB3

    +

    LiteOn IHAS124-04 24x DVD±R, 8x DVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, DVD-RAM x12, SATA, Black, OEM

EDIT : I haven't fully decided on the PSU, SSD, or cooling fan - but I'll order them today too with this batch if it seems right. The only things I won't be buying today for financial reasons for definite are the monitor, case and anything that is missed out in this post.

P.s. If there's something else I decide to buy today - I'll add by edditing, this post after the '+' symbol.

    Re: i5 2500k - New PC -Overclocking + SLI

EDIT: So with watercooling, overclocking and Xfire - only a 535 Watt PSU is recommended with a minimum PSU of 483 Watts.

I would go for a 600 Watt to be safe but seeing what people recomment I'll probably go for that 750W courtesy of CAT-THE-FIFTH.

    Sorry for the double post.

(had a bunch of stuff in about reservations of how much of a PSU I would need, edited them out)
