    Re: new motherboard help

i myself swing with a x4 945, and have been scouting for a new mobo. there's plenty that can house it.

what's your budget for the mobo and ram?

    Re: new motherboard help

I would say Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 for £54 or Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 for £67.20. Other users may suggest different boards. Or look in past threads.

    Re: new motherboard help

i'd say you'd could go for a 990fx board for that money (here's a few reviewed). the cheapest is the biostar board, about £80-90. i'm pretty sure the 990fx's all support usb 3 at the rear and mid-board (unlike cheaper boards), and have at least dual pcie x 16 (if you want to sli or crossfire).

i'm after one myself, so i had a big list bookmarked. dunno where that went though. have a scout round for the prices, i think the gigabyte boards are between £100 and 130, still leaving plenty for ram.

What PSU do you have and what case??

I would get the following parts:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-M5A97-E...0&sr=8-1-spell

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-Tec...4666877&sr=8-2

The RAM is the same price as standard 1600MHZ DDR3. You can still run it at 1333MHZ or 1600MHZ.

I would then put the £30 saved from the budget to this graphics card:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Club-3D-HD78...4666975&sr=1-1

    Edit!!

If you are not overclocking, this motherboard will be fine:

    Re: new motherboard help

The Biostar motherboard and the RAM I suggested, would be the minimum I would aim for ATM.

    Re: new motherboard help

Hi OP, I've just deleted the new thread you created as it duplicates the question asked here. Try to stick to one thread per subject, as it makes it easier for people to know what's already been suggested.

Based on the information here, it looks like you need to find an AMD 970 motherboard with the SB950 southbridge, and you need to keep it to about £50 if you're going to get a decent amount of DDR3 RAM, so CAT's suggesation of the Biostar from ebuyer is spot on

    Re: new motherboard help

No, you'd need a 990X or 990FX motherboard, but that would soak up pretty much all of your £90 budget. So you'll either have to stretch the budget, or forget about SLI, I'm afraid.
