Post e7500 CPU and ASUS P5QC

    Hi guys,

My friend has the following system e7500 CPU and ASUS P5QC and 2x2 4GB DDR2 ram. The motherboard supports DDR3 up to 8GB. Can he install 8GB ram 1333MHz on his system? Would the CPU support it?

Re: e7500 CPU and ASUS P5QC

As far as I know Core 2 based processors do not have on die memory controllers, so their memory support isn't "built in" but rather handled by the motherboards chipset. Seeing as the motherboard supports DDR3 then it should be fine.

However an E7500 has an FSB of 1066mhz which is a mismatch with 1333mhz RAM. You would need to underclock the RAM (it should default to 1066mhz) or you will be overclocking the CPU. To run at 1333mhz speed you will need to overclock the CPU or run the RAM in a divider meaning the speeds are not 1:1. Another thing would be to decrease the CPU multiplier and increase the FSB and thus keeping 1:1.

EDIT: Ok an E7500 has a multiplier of 11 and at 1066mhz FSB needs dual channel RAM of 266.5mhz (533 DDR). So I'm not sure you can do 1:1 as 1333mhz RAM in dual channel would result in needing 667mhz (1333 DDR)? I don't think that's possible, So I'd say you must run it in a divider and forget everything I said about 1:1

Well, the ASUS website clearly states that the MoBo Supports "Dual-channel DDR3 1333MHz / DDR2 1066 MHz".

I think it is safe enough to say that Yes, it will support 1333 Mhz DDR3 memory modules.

I was going to agree with grayg1, but I see that novatech were selling a bundle with an e6700 cpu (fsb 1066) (very similar to e7500) with ddr3 1333 so will have to say it should work. http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/b...132_HotUKDeals
