    Which AM3+ Motherboard?

I've finally decided to partially upgrade from my current Q6600 system after being offered an X4 955 BE.

What would the best (and reasonably priced) compatible motherboard be for this, that would include:

    • Being ATX (to make the most of space)
    • 6 SATA Ports
    • USB3 Header
    • 4 DDR3 Memory Slots

The cooler I plan on using would be an Arctic Cooling Freezer 13.

    Thank You for any advice.

Biostar TA970 - Best of the budget 9xx chipset boards and will support potential future upgrades to current piledriver CPUs. The only one of your requirements it doesn't meet is the USB3 header. It's got 2x USB3 ports on the rear, but no header. You could use something like this to get the front ports running USB2 though.

Having built a few machines lately (both intel and AMD) using the AsRock Extreme and Pro boards, I have been mightily impressed with them. Good price for the spec as well.

    Thank You.

I have to admit, getting rid of the USB3 header requirement does appear to make things cheaper and that motherboard certainly appears to have plenty of features and room for potential future upgrades.

As I think it unlikely that I'll have many (if any) USB3 devices anyway, it does make more sense to just turn the case's USB3 ports into USB 2 as you have suggested.

Thank You, I appreciate the recommendation.

Given the saving that the Biostar provides by simply eliminating the USB3 header requirement however, I think it seems wiser for me to choose that instead.

I probably should have mentioned in the first post that I don't really have any plans for overclocking, but I have now gone with the Biostar recommended above.
