Smile Haswell Rev 2 Motherboards No Show - Is Amd An Alternative.....

I was hoping there would be some news on the rev 2.0 motherboards that were supposed to be arriving next month (August) but seems as though that was just a myth, I arnt going to spend good money on items with a "slight glitch" and wonder if the new boards are going to be delayed till next year when the Haswell refresh comes out so am wondering if the Amd 8350 is an alternative for gaming, some of the peeps on here must be using the Amd so would like to hear your opinions plz...

Re: Haswell Rev 2 Motherboards No Show - Is Amd An Alternative.....

I wouldn't say that the "itchy-glitchy" Intel chipset based motherboards for the current Haswell are really containing a error of such a magnitude that you either need to wait for new revision motherboards or choose a different base.
If I recall correctly, the error roughly is that USB devices (not even sure if both 2.0 and 3.0) connected while putting the computer to sleep/deep suspension don't wake up with the rest of the PC and you must manually re-connect them.
Maybe only happens when you have the new C6/C7 states enabled. Can't recall exactly.
But I personally wouldn't loose sleep over it.
A Haswell despite the glitch and lets say having 1GB DDR3 @ 1066Mhz can be pretty swift (personal experience:-).

    Definitely seconding Bonebreaker.

I was almost hoping that they'd sell the Rev1 motherboards at a discount when I first heard, but the bug is so minor that they probably won't even do that.

Re: Haswell Rev 2 Motherboards No Show - Is Amd An Alternative.....

Yes AMD is a workable alternative. You pay less money and you get about 20% less performance compared to the high end Intel stuff.

What are you upgrading from, or is this for a new build?

20% is like being a couple of generations back on Intel, so if you are trying to upgrade from an old i5 then it almost certainly won't be worth you changing to AMD. Mind you, from an old i5 I don't think it is worth upgrading to the latest Intel either

They aren't going to advertise the new boards, likely you won't know whether a board is rev2 or not.

I really don't understand why you care? If it's for gaming surely you care more about speed over the possibility that you *might* need to reinsert a USB stick after sleep.

Yeah definitely not worth it. Don't change anything, unless it's older than that I would say.

Re: Haswell Rev 2 Motherboards No Show - Is Amd An Alternative.....

I can't see myself going back to AMD rig in the near future, but wouldn't rule them out in the longer term. I would suggest either waiting until October for the 2nd revision boards or simply getting a first revision board but look into the glitch in more detail first.
