    I7-3770 Results - First Build

Someone is offering me an OEM I7-3770K for a great price so thought I'd jump at the chance.

Considering these boards, which one is the best for it? I don't really have any intentions on overclocking it but maybe maybe.

    Here's some boards:

    B75 MSI
    Z77 MSI

Yes I have picked them because they are "red" (don't worry they have all the features I need). I know the B75 is a business chipset, however it has 1 SATA III which can be used for my SSD which is fine. Plus I only need one PCI-E slot.
Is it really worth spending an extra £40 for the Z chipset. I know I'll need it for overclocking however. Don't really want to spend that much on a board as I know the chip is quick anyway

My main worry is the word "MSI" combined with "motherboard". Makes me a bit hesitant. Plus of the VRMs

Thanks all, this is actually my first Intel chip.

Re: Motherboard for I7-3770K? First Intel Timer

The links go to the same place. Assuming you mean this one:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/522626-msi-lga...77a-g45-gaming

I would be wary of the Killer NIC - I have one on my older 1366 motherboard and the drivers and management software are a PITA.

Also - what do you call cheap (for the 3770K)?

Oh yeah my bad. Thanks corrected.

Also I won't be using the NIC, unfortunately my computer is upstairs so the only option is wireless USB (I know!). So I will be disabling the LAN

EDIT: I am not getting it off Amazon btw

If you are not planning to use the "advanced" overclocking settings/options, B75 is more than enough.

So far I am having a good experience with MSI boards. Personally.

Business chipset would be the following: Q75 and Q77. B75 is meant for end users I would say.

Verdict: if you are happy with RAM at 1600Mhz and no K class CPU overclocking support (not sure about multiplier CPU overclocking) go for B75.

I would probably stick to Asus or Gigabyte if I were you. MSI tend to be patchy in comparison.

    BTW,how much is the Core i7 3770K??

Exactly £100 to be precise haha, sorry to disappoint. That's why I thought "just go for it".

Ah, well I was unsure about multiplier overclocking as that's what I want to do. I heard you can't get the BCLK up by much, around 10 mhz the most? Was bit unsure about the B75 chipset.

EDIT: Yeah my RAM is 1600mhz so I really don't mind it stuck at that either way.

Yeah I was worried about MSI (but it looks good ). So maybe Gigabyte Z77X-D3H or Asrock Z77 Extreme4?

Price makes me feel sick a bit, but I'm sure it'll last a good time than the MSI maybe?

    Thanks for the input

Re: Motherboard for I7-3770K? First Intel Timer

Go for a mATX Z77 MoBo if you would like to save some money.
£100 for a i7-3770K is a incredible bargain. I am happy for you.

I would say with not a crazy overclocking and sufficient case cooling any MoBo should last a while.

Re: Motherboard for I7-3770K? First Intel Timer

    Thanks

Well I am looking at some others, one is a m-ATX which is nice. However that said how good quality are the MOSFETs on the Biostar and Asrock boards?

    Biostar Z77X
    Asrock Extreme4 M

I doubt I will be going for anything high overclocking as I am seeing it as ">= FX-8350" I don't really know what's considered "high" in Intel's area, but it turbos up to 3.9Ghz either way which is great. So 3.9Ghz 24/7 is what I would aim for if I were to overclock.

    EDIT:
Looking around, is the B75 chipset able to lock to the max default turbospeed for K processors? If so 3.9Ghz is nice so wouldn't mind that.

    If not then darn

I can try tomorrow to turn off the turbo and lock to the max turbo multiplier even if it is a non-K CPU.

    EDIT: AsRock before BioStar.

OK clear the plan for the I7-3770K, had some daunting news (some can guess what it is).

So I have reverted back to my original plan, a I7-3770S instead.

Fingers crossed this seller won't turn out dodgy too

Good luck then. Once you have your transaction secured, will you come back to this thread or you already decided?
One small tip: if you were thanking about tinkering your new non-K CPU towards efficiency with undervoltage, forget about MSI boards. They can't undervoltage :'(
