    Ethernet Takes Longer Than OS

I've had the problem for as long as since i converted to using a SSD(all hail the SSD!) so about a year and a half i think.
Basically when i start the computer it'll go through the motions and i'll login but i will be waiting at the desktop for access to the internet/LAN for another 30 seconds at least. It shows the little symbol in the bottom left of the desktop in windows saying no connectivity until it finds it.
The same also happens coming out of sleep-mode too.

Any way to speed this process up or would i just have to look for another motherboard?(don't really want to upgrade for another year or so)

    Motherboard: M4A89GTD PRO/USB3

Just a thought since all those little 30 seconds add up!

Might be the router being slow dishing out IP addresses?

You should be able to hardcode all the details though so it doesn't need to search for them on startup.

Either the router can be slow or your LAN/ethernet adapter wakes up slowly too.

Re: Ethernet Takes Longer Than OS

    tried upgrading your motherboard firmware?

do you turn your pc off at the wall?

modern motherboards have onboard nics which never properly power down, so you've either turned this function off in the bios (have you disabled wake on lan?) or youve got a software issue to locate.

Re: Ethernet Takes Longer Than OS

I know it's been awhile but just for anyone who searches and finds this and to those who offered suggestions:

The problem, as it turned out, was the cable. i had forgotten i had used the Ethernet cable that came with my xbox360 because i was in a rush and had lost a couple others. As soon as i switched the cable to one that came with a new router it all goes up to full 1Gbit speed. Handy too since i'm setting up network drives.

    Thanks again everyone.
