Asus 990FX Sabertooth rev1 and an FX 9590?

As title - is the above combo a workable option? got a rev 1 sabertooth (and a H80) - but am really looking at the 9590 on ocuk (and thinking it might nudge under £200 in a sale)

but would my sabertooth (latest bios) work ok?

I don't see why it should not as the FX9590 is a pre-overclocked FX8350. You could get an FX8320 or FX8350 and overclock it too, although the FX9590 might be slightly better binned I suspect.

All the 9590 is, is a specially binned 8350, if I was you, I would spend less money and buy an 8350, who knows you could be lucky and get one that overclocks to that level anyway, I comfortably get mine to 4.5Ghz, so the potential is there.

Re: Asus 990FX Sabertooth rev1 and an FX 9590?

Bear in mind the motherboard and PSU must be able to supply a TDP of 230 ish watts to the cpu at that speed, constantly and reliably, I would be inclined to save the money and try my luck with a 8350, but at least you know that the 9350 is guaranteed to run at the rated speed.

Re: Asus 990FX Sabertooth rev1 and an FX 9590?

The 9590 is a pointless cpu that AMD should never have released. It's way overpriced and pulls 200w of power. A 8320 is the sweet spot with the FX series.

    Hi there,

Only our Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 supports the 9590 from BIOS 1708 onwards.

Re: Asus 990FX Sabertooth rev1 and an FX 9590?

all the same CPU, i got a FX 8320 recently and have it at 4.6ghz, it was really easy and have not bothered pushing it anymore.

pair the chip with a decent board and cooler and unleash the POWWWEERRRR!
