AM1 Motherboard with Optical Audio Out?

I'm thinking of building myself a small low-power HTPC system, built around a Kabini APU. I'd want to connect it up to my home cinema amp, which is fairly old now & doesn't have any HDMI inputs. I just wondered whether anyone knows of an AMI motherboard which has an on-board optical audio output on it? Of course I could add a PCIe sound card, but that would add around £30 to the build cost, and mean I couldn't use a small, compact case. Any help would be very gratefully received

The only one I am aware of is the ASRock AM1H-ITX. It is not necessarily cheaper than going with another motherboard and soundcard (given the nominal £30 of an AM1 board and the £30 you quote for a soundcard), as the two places I found for it would be around £60. On the plus side, this is the mobo which accepts DC power in as detailed on the ASRock website. This could mean a smaller, quieter and more efficient build. It would however mean additional outlay for a DC brick but it could be a cool experiment.

    ASRock mobo site: http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/AM1H-ITX/
    Board on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/ASROCK-AM1H-.../dp/B00J0DJJ28
    Found on Google: http://www.casetac.com/index.php?rou...BP&language=en
Also saw it going for £56.25 on eBay.

That's really interesting - thanks for the info! It is a shame about the price (as you say, about twice the cost of other AM1 mITX boards), but it would be a solution to the problem. I've been looking at cases which come with a 120W PSU, so that motherboard would work very well
