    X99 Mobo's

So I am planning a upgrade soon and I have been checking out the motherboards that are out now, Originally I was going to get the Asus ROG board but looking at it there is a lot there I dont need.

So I have been checking out the rest of the competition for a good board, that will clock pretty well.

Gigabyte were my first choice and man they make it hard to pick one, nearly all there boards seem to be almost the same with a few differences here and there.

Narrowed it down to the following :

    Gaming 7
    Gaming G1
    UD5

Main difference between the gaming and the UD5 I can see is the audio chip and the NIC.

But the two gaming ones, I cant see a difference, the boards look the same, back panels the same even the spec sheet is the same.

    Anyone shed some light here?

Waiting for the big sites to post reviews so I can get a more in depth idea of the differences ect.

    Re: X99 Mobo's

The G1 is the top end.
The Gaming 7 has fewer heatpipes, for eg. the CPU PVM and the IOH aren't connected with a heatpipe as they are on the G1.
The UD5 has fewer features as you already noticed.

    G1:

Gaming 7 (despite the G1 sticker):

Cheers kalniel, I can see now why I failed to spot any differences

Ill check out the reviews when they go live and make a decision then but on paper it looks like the UD5 is the one ill be going for

    Re: X99 Mobo's

I have a soft spot for Gigabyte motherboards over all other manufacturers, so I say go with that one. I offer no rational explanation other than I've had more Gigabyte's than any other make. Go with that one: you know it'll be beautifully packaged, contain plenty cables and BIOS and driver CD for networking will work without a hassle. ☺

The Asus X99-E WS board looks interesting with rumoured skylark support.

That's odd as Skylake E is not out next year, Skylake is but that's for consumer boards not high end desktop, the next chip out in the high end desktop area is Broadwell E, and given that these are based off Xeons its safe to assume the socket wont be out of date in 9 months, more like 2 - 3 years.

Skylake on the high end desktop platform wont be out until 2016 at least.

I think someone at softpedia doesn't know what they are talking about

I would have a good look at the ASUS Rampage V Extreme, I have the Rampage IV Black Edition and love it.

    Re: X99 Mobo's

Ok so now the dust has settled on the release I have pretty much made up my mind.

Going for the Asus X99-S, its pretty much the same board as the Deluxe without the extras, wifi, fan controller ect and it losses 2 USB ports and a NIC.

The rest looks to be the same, same power delivery so should OC as good as the deluxe board, and its under £200, cant see a Gigabyte board to match that, and on the plus side it can work with the colour scheme I am thinking of
