My friend has had a dell pc for many years, but a few weeks ago he started having problems with the pc randomly not POSTing sometimes when he turns it on. It slowly got worse and worse until he really struggled to get onto his pc at all. Eventually he got it looked at and it turns out that the mobo is knackered and needs replacing. Sounds like a straight forward solution but this being dell, the mobo is completely mirrored, making it very difficult to get a compatible replacement. Obviously the best solution would be to cut his losses and build a new pc the reality is he has very little money and needs to do this in the cheapest way possible. Here is an image of his mobo: https://s3.amazonaws.com/spw/compute...29086725-1.jpg (apologies for the poor resolution) Can somebody who has a bit of experience with dell check it out and let us know if it is possible to get his pc up and running again without replacing the mobo, case AND power supply, as I think its also a peculiar one.
Looking at the mobo layout, everything is in a very odd position, and I cant seem to locate an 8-pin or a 4-pin ATX CPU power connector. Am I missing something? Why are there 2 connectors that look like the mobo power? Why are Dell so annoying?
Thanks in advance,
Liam
