Re: Who makes the most reliable motherboards?

Seems on here everybody loves Asus but I've never had problems with MSI most likely down to luck I guess.

Re: Who makes the most reliable motherboards?

I've never had a problem with ASRock for standard builds. For overclocking I tend to stick to gigabyte boards. I wonder what boards people feel they should avoid?

Re: Who makes the most reliable motherboards?

I usually avoid ASRock, as when I've seen review data they tend to have less PCB layers vs another manufacturer for like category of mobo.

Why would fewer PCB layers necessarily be a bad thing? If they're able to route and shield correctly with fewer layers than their competitors then it's an engineering achievement TBH.

Re: Who makes the most reliable motherboards?

My first PC had a Supermicro board - was not home assembled; from a company called Viglen. All subsequent machines have been home builds including a NAS.
I have Asus, Gigabyte, ASRock and Intel (mini-ITX) motherboards - no issues (touch wood)
I guess the RMA statistics show that its close enough to not really matter
I would buy based on cost versus features and would even consider small form factor specialists such as Jetway and Zotac

...and not forgetting to buy the MB from a reliable supplier so any failures there would be no problems for RMA
2nd computer gigabyte P965ds3p, 7770 E2140@2.9ghz, corsair HX520 6 years stable, replaced now with E8400@3.9ghz and will overclock more when I'm bored.

Re: Who makes the most reliable motherboards?

I always used to use ASUS, but the last two boards have been Gigabyte, simply because they offered more features for the form factor I was using - and I have been very pleased with them.

I suppose if you want very reliable boards, you should be looking at boards specially designed for server applications, but then you are moving up in cost, and lacking in fearures required for a home system.

Re: Who makes the most reliable motherboards?

I've only had one motherboard stop working on me. I can't remember the brand with 100% certainty but I think it was ASRock. However with that said I bought the board second hand and got 3 years use out of it.

In my opinion if you buy from any of the leading brands you will be ok. Just avoid less experienced companies such as ZOTAC.

Exactly what I am considering at the moment -upgrading my NAS with a server board, possibly by SuperMicro - where I began my motherboard journey..

I should also add (as someone earlier in the thread mentioned Foxconn as a reliable manufacturer) my worst experience with a motherboard was the "LOGICBOARD" of a MacMini - died after 13 months of very light use and even geniuses couldn't figure out what was wrong or why it went wrong
