MSI x99s gaming 9 ack motherboard oc genie button not lighting up or overclocking

Hi all,
When I press the oc genie button on the motherboard it does not light up an when I check the bios there have been no changes. When I use the virtual oc genie button in the bios the button still does not light up but the system does overclock. Is there something I need to do or is it a fault on the motherboard?
