Why the lack of MB and CPU bundles nowadays?
Long story short I got a refund for my old motherboard as its faulty after a year and decided to upgrade to I7 4790k.
I've been hunting for nearly a week and in fairness the bundle deals are few and far between with the majority being quite poor for over inflated prices.
I finally found one I liked which consisted of
- CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail
- Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
For just shy of £347.
The trouble is its just out of my budget (£322) and I am on a time limit, I bought my old MB from amazon, who have issued an advance refund but want my old motherboard back in 20 days now or will charge me the full cost of the board again so I am looking to get the new MB and CPU quick to do a straight swap of components to limit my fat fingers ability to break something else lol.
Iv hunted just about everywhere I can think of and cant find a decent bundle for this budget, does anyone else have any ideas and why is it most places now have stopped doing bundles of decent MB and CPU's. I seem to remember them being a lot easier to get.
TY.
Re: Why the lack of MB and CPU bundles nowadays?
You are not going to do better than that for a 4790k and a decent mid range board. The 4790k alone is £250+ and then the Gigabyte Gaming 7 is around £125 so there is a saving with that bundle. CPU prices have shot up in recent years, just look at the silly Skylake pricing. Is this for gaming? If so just go for a i5 4690k as the hyperthreading of the i7 makes no difference in most games. You can get a 4690k and a half decent board for around (£260-280).

I have to echo pastymuncher.....if you are on a budget and can't just spend what you want, then the i7 route isn't where you want to be heading. It adds very little and actually in most cases, adds nothing.....except a large wedge to the price!
Re: Why the lack of MB and CPU bundles nowadays?
If you are that set for an i7-4790k but your budget just can't get stretched any further, did you considered second hand?
Re: Why the lack of MB and CPU bundles nowadays?
Some bundles do include assembly, so it's natural for them to be more expensive than buying the two parts separately.
