    Sound Card advice please

    Hi All

I am looking to get a new pc as my last one is now 4 years old. I am shortly getting a new gaming system built by scan (waiting for black Fri!!)which contains the asus z170 pro gaming motherboard and will be buying a newHyperX Cloud Gaming 7.1 headset. I was looking for a suitable soundcard for it as I will mostly be playing games. I was shocked however on seeing the same old sound cards which I had nearly 3 years ago and some still say works with vista!!! Im looking for a new sound card that will work with win 10 not have driver updates for it. Any help and suggestions will be great. Thanks

Did Microsoft make significant changes to the audio device side of things to need a large driver rewrite?

I know they introduced new MIDI APIs but that not relevant in your case.

That headset has its own sound chip built in as far as I can tell, so it's not going to touch any sound card you put in your computer.

edit: ah, I was looking at the Cloud II which has the USB. The Cloud version doesn't, but will work just as well from the sound chip built into the motherboard which is much better than the old weakly amped ones you used to get, you don't need a separate sound card.

Honestly, I find it hard to justify a soundcard these days unless you're driving headphones with a massive impedence - even then, the ASUS motherboards have built in sound amplifiers anyway. And to take advantage of a soundcard you need really good (expensive ) audio-phile like headphones
