Upgraded CPU, now getting microcode error on boot
Hi all
I have an LGA 1366 X58 Fujitsu Celcius M470-2 workstation.
I've just upgraded the CPU from a Xeon W3565 to a W3690.
Everything works fine, apart from when booting I get an error about not having a microcode for the installed CPU.
I've tried updating the microcode, but I can't find anything later than the CPu manufacture date. The only things I've found are for Linux, but I need something for the BIOS.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Tim

It's an architecture jump, this normally requires updated BIOS from the motherboard manufacturer with updated chipset firmware. If Fujitsu hasn't released anything then I suspect you're likely to be stuffed.

I have the latest BIOS (1.22) and the CPU is down as being supported by my motherboard revision (D2778-C)

I'd get onto Fujitsu support. Where do you get the microcode error? On POST or when the operating system loads?

It's on post. I've had to tell the computer to not halt on errors. Also it's saying the thermal sensor on the CPU fails, but I get temperature readings when I'm in Windows (using Speccy)

If it's only the sensor error and everything is working as intended (performance, stability) then I'd just roll with it. I ran a 3770K in a supported board and BIOS with a sensor pop-up for the best part of a year problem free, although as I mentioned that might be too much of a risk for workstation?

Yeah, it's working fine. It's actually my HTPC that lives behind my telly. Not mission critical, but it would upset me if I couldn't play Battlefield 1!

Sure you have m470-2 and not m470? m470 officially does not support 6 core cpus, but they have the same chipset and socket and there is a chance 6 core cpu would work.
I modded LGA775 board to fit LGA771 Xeon once and didn't even had to update the bios, but other folks I know were experiencing problem like you have, so this sounds a bit familiar.

Pretty sure. The motherboard says D2778-C1 on it.
I'll be upgrading it all to Ryzen and probably Vega, so it won't matter too much soon. I just cant reboot it. It shuts down fine, but rebooting sends all the fans into overdrive indefinitely. I need to force it off and back on.
