gaming mobo for i5 7600k?
hi everyone. im going to be building a new pc soon but cant decide on which mobo to go for. the pc will mainly be used for gaming, battlefield 1.
so far ive chosen:
NZXT s340 elite (black)
NZXT 280mm Kraken X62 RGB All In One CPU Water Cooler
Intel i5 7600k
ideally im looking to spend around £160 on a mobo but cant seem to decide which one id be best going for.
Asus ROG Strix Z270F
Asus Prime Z270 A
MSI Z270 Gaming M3
havent quite decided on which graphics card to go for yet or ram. probably a 1070 but i was hoping to find one for around £300 and around £100 on ram. So any suggestions on the mobo?
Re: gaming mobo for i5 7600k?
I would say wait one month for the Ryzen R5 CPUs to launch - even if the Core i5 7600K is the best CPU for the games you want to run,at the very least there should be some price movement in the market. OTH,the Ryzen CPU might be suited better if most of the games you want to run can scale better with more cores.
Re: gaming mobo for i5 7600k?
thanks for the reply. has anything been said about the price of the r5 yet? also would i have better options for gaming motherboards with amd? i could try and struggle to play battlefield 1 with my phenom x4 if it means getting a better pc for the same price as the intel though.

Well, when the R5 1600X,etc are released in a month we should be able to get a fairer view of Ryzen in games, but BF1 loves MOAR cores,so it probably will be a good choice for it. Apparently the 6 core R5 CPUs will be between $230 to $270,so unless the exchange rates get worse it would be around £230 to £270.
I would say the Core i5 7600K is probably a better choice if you tend to play games which are more limited by single core performance,ie,all those running with the 10th revision of an already outdated engine like FO4 and Skyrim.
Edit!!
Also what graphics card do you have - with the RX580 being launched next month, there are some great deals to be had on the RX480 8GB too.

Not officially, but the rumours have the Ryzen 5 priced between around £175 and £260 (see http://hexus.net/tech/features/cpu/1...pu-caught-eye/ for details), and they were pretty accurate for the Ryzen 7...
EDIT: The specs of the 1600X and 1500X have been officially confirmed. 1500X boost clock is lower than previously rumoured, but* 1600X clocks are higher....
http://wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-5-1500...ad-cpu-leaked/
* huh, looking back at the rumours the 1500X didn't exist; the top 4C/8T option was the 1400X. So the rumours are apparently less reliable down this end of the range! Its probably worth assuming that we'll see non-X equivalents of these chips with lower clock speeds, but given all Ryzen are unlocked the 1600 might be an overclockers dream...

ive got a HIS 7950 at the moment which is quite useless now. yes ive noticed that the prices of 480 8gb have come down alot lately where you can easily get one for £180.
i dont think there will be an update for battlefield 1 though to take advantage of the extra cores that ryzen has but i keep thinking a ryzen build would be more future proof than an i5. been looking at alot of videos on youtube and ryzen and i7 were pretty much the same where as fx-8300 had to much fps drops.

Games tend to scale better with cores than SMT,so I would expect the R5 1600X to hold its own against the Core i5 7600K. OFC,we will need to see what reviews say first, but I suspect it will be a good match for the game.

BF1 already loves extra cores especially multiplayer.
CB benched it for their Ryzen reviews, and certainly for DX11 it really loves cores:

And the frametimes vs i7-7700K which seems to be at full load despite it min 500MHz clock advantage and higher IPC:

Of course while DICE is almost the definite multi-threaded engine developer they may still improve it more for Ryzen since they have / have had a fairly close relationship with AMD (they basically asked for Mantle after all). Other games scale worse of course, and as Cat already mentioned Bethesda's own stuff (not things they publish like Doom) like Skyrim and Fallout 4 etc. are rather poor.
Re: gaming mobo for i5 7600k?
Thanks for the reply. Looks like I'll have to wait a bit longer for a PC then. Did they mention what mobo/gpx/ram they used with those tests ?

What do you like?
The whole point of a 'gaming' motherboard is the looks so without some guidance about the style you'd prefer it's a difficult question to give a sensible answer to.

I will come back to you on that one - AM4 motherboards are a tad hit and miss now,so I am scouting the forums for the most stable ones.
Do you intend to overclock??

Its more the case,if you get a more basic motherboard which is not made for overclocking but will run a CPU at stock clockspeeds fine, you can get a better graphics card too due to the money saved.
What card do you intend to buy??

was thinking of going for a 1070 gtx for a change as all the cards ive had in the past have been amd. when i was thinking of going for an intel build i was looking at a budget of around £160 for a mobo and hopefully a 1070 gtx for around £300

Well I would wait a month and see how the R5 1600X looks then if I were you - Frostbite based games like BF1 love MOAR cores. What other games do you intend to play??

yeh thats i plan. if the ryzen performs well and everything is still within budget then ill definitely go for a ryzen build. battlefield is the only game i play :P
