Unable to access the BIOS
Hi,
I am usually able to enter the BIOS by pressing Delete however for some reason I am now unable to access the BIOS by pressing Delete. I also cannot boot from USB by pressing F12. Any ideas on how to access the BIOS & boot from USB.
Many thanks
Martin
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H (1.0)
BIOS Ver: f22
Model: i5
Operating System: Win 10 64-bit
Brand: Corsair
Memory Part No.: 16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3
Re: Unable to access the BIOS
Try F2 instead of delete.
Also is your keyboard definitely working? Could be the usb isn't being initialised for some reason. Times like this an old school keyboard with ps/2 is handy.
Re: Unable to access the BIOS
I reckon you've plugged your keyboard in to a USB 3 port that's fed off a USB3 controller which is separate to the USB ports provided by the Z77 chipset.
Try plugging your keyboard in to a different USB port, preferably to a USB 2.0 port because all of these will be provided by the Z77.
EDIT: Doing a bit more poking;

See the pair of 'Etron 3.0' ports? Those are hooked up to a Etron EJ168 USB controller and it's possible that it's not letting the keyboard talk to the BIOS when you switch your machine on.
As Windows boots it will load the drivers for the EJ168, which will explain why (presumably) the keyboard works in Windows but not in the BIOS.
Re: Unable to access the BIOS
I've not looked up that motherboard, but check the manual it will be in there, as Jonj1611 said it's not always del, I've seen F1, F2 and F5 also used, also DDY's tip about not using usb3 ports even using the intel usb3 ports can cause issues + you really don't need usb3 for a keyboard there's no benefit to it over usb2 AFAIK only reason I can think of is if you had a usb hub built into the keyboard.
Re: Unable to access the BIOS
I had boot problems recently after a botched windows update (BSOD during installation - still not sure why). On restart nothing worked. Had to use the old PS2 keyboard I luckily have kicking around as it was the only thing that would work to let me get into BIOS and start getting the boot sequence back in order (usually my USB keyboard would be fine). Then had to reset drive status to bootable using windows repair at the cmd line. Seriously messed up stuff. Not sure how or why a windows update would screw up the BIOS so badly, but it did. And nobbling the drive status - that's one I'd never seen before.
Re: Unable to access the BIOS
Thanks for the replies. Still have this issue I have tried a PS2 keyboard as well as using different USB ports for the USB keyboard, This motherboard definitely uses the Delete key to access the bios.
Re: Unable to access the BIOS
does your screen display at all? I have one machine that trips back to displaying on the onboard port when it gets unplugged (I think its battery has gone) but I spend ages trying to work out why it won't post when it is paused on a message saying BIOS corrupted press F1 to enter or F2 to apply default settings. only problem is I can't see it without switching the monitor cable off the graphics card and onto the onboard. now I know I get there quick enough but the first time that took me a while... and then once I can read the screen I can reset the BIOS to run off pci graphics, do a restart swap cable and et voila!
