    Grindhouse

I saw this movie last night, and found it to be a simply awesome experience. One of the best films I've seen in ages. My friend hated it. Pasionately. He wanted to walk out after the first half hour, and spent most of the rest fidgetting to try to annoy me, as I was obviously enjoying it.

The rest of the audience seemingly split between the cheering (the audience is a lot more vocal in cinemas here!) and a few people walking out. I'm interested to know what you all think when it opens in Britain in a month or so. Has my sense of humour been warped by too long in the colonies?

From what I've seen/read about it, it does seem like one of those films you either love or hate. Quite looking forward to it though. Which half did you prefer?

Looking forward to it also. The full trailer for Thanksgiving, (Eli Roth's offering for the trailers that split the 2 halves up) was online recently, and it was hilarious.

I prefered Death Proof which is the second half. It's a slow boil up to a climactic conclusion... But the first half is fantastic too...

If people walk out 1/2 way through they are idiots plain and simple.

I appreciate that the concept of Grindhouse may be misleading to some, but 99% ot punters hould have read about it, or seen the trailers at least? And if not, why go see a film called Grindhouse then not wonder why the film is called Planet Terror?

The length is no issue either. Saving Private Ryan, any LOTR film and countless others clock in at 3 hours plus - they didn't suffer from it.

This is just a big marketing scam to make more money out us poor punters - it's performed badly so they've put a spin on it to make it sound more acceptable to split the film into the separate components and therefore charge twice tha admission.

It's so true that people in the states are so much more enthusiastic about films in the US. While I was living over there it always reminded me of going to the cinema as a kid, where people would cheer when the curtain went back, and clap at the end of the movie (if it was good). Now everyone seems to have stick up their ass and are too concerned with maintaing that irritating apathetic 'am I bovvered' mentallity which they perceive as being cool....

Anyway, I want to see Grindhouse, but not enough to see on the big screen, and I doubt it'll have the same effect on the tv. Certainly sounds interesting.

Apparently as it didn't do too well in the States they are looking to release it as two separate films over here. Death Proof being the first sometime in September, which will supposedly have some stuff that was cut from the initial release.

Whaaaaat?? Do you have a source for that? That's even worse than before. Split and cut - that's a joke. The release date was meant to be end on May/start of June.

I totally object to the films being split in 2, and if it does happen, they won't be getting my money. There not even using that as their excuse, but claiming the audience was confused about the concept of 2 films.... what bollocks...

Also saw somewhere on the BBC site about the split (google 'grindhouse UK release' for quite a few mentions about it). If they do split it at least both films may be beefed up a little bit with material that was originally dropped. Still would have preferred to see them together though then got the extended editions on DVD!

Though looking in the latest (May) Odeon brochure it's still advertising it as Grindhouse (which suggests both films to me) due for release June 1st, but that was likely printed before the consideration to delay/split it.

I guess with lots of pretty big releases at the moment (Spiderman 3, Pirates 3, Shrek 3, FF2...) doesn't help matters.
