    The Phantom Band

They are a new band from Glasgow. One of the members is my cousin, so of course i have an imediate interesting in them

Still worth taking a look at though.

They have just released their first single on Trial and Error Recordings. It's available on limited release 7" and for download on TuneTribe.com. It's kind of alt rock with a distinct blues and folk influence, complete with a weird synth part too. Worth the 79p if you ask me

Of course they have the obligitory MySpace page. There are a couple more tracks on there too. "The Whole On My Side" is great.

    http://www.myspace.com/thephantombandpage

Official site, but there isn't really anything there (and it is a bit sweary)
    http://www.phantomband.co.uk/

I hope some of you like their stuff.

Heh, spooky. My mate Rik is their lead singer/guitarist. Who is your cousin in the bad, I only know a few out of all of them.

And I agree you should check them out, fellow Hexusites, maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm sure most people will find something to like in their music.

    Now that is frickin weird!

My cousin is Greg. Tall, skinny, long hair and an infectious smile. He plays guitar and a load of other stringed instruments (like the banjo) but not necessarily in the band

Yeah, I know Greg. I know a few of the Aboyne area crowd, as I'm from Donside, which is pretty close by. Didn;t know them up there though, only down here in Glasgow.

In the band he usually hides in a corner, with his back to the audience.... Assume due to your location, you've not seen them play?

Not as the Phantom Band no. I did see him/them play a couple of years ago in a pub at Charring Cross, but it was a pretty short set. I don't know how many of those are not in the band.

I've met a couple of the others, but i can't remember which ones

God, it's a small world indeed!

Ah cool I missed it. They're playing in The Box on Sauchiehall st tonight too, some fundraiser gig. Rubbish venue, but for a good cause.

    Re: The Phantom Band

OK, bumping an old thread here, but it's mine so that's OK.

The Phantom Band now have an album out on Chemikal Underground. Released tomorrow, but for some reason HMV.com sent my copy early so I've been listening to it since Friday.

And it's really good! Of course I would say that though. Very hard to classify what kind of music it is, but have a listen to the stuff on their myspace. http://www.myspace.com/thephantombandpage

Island and The Howling are my favourites just now.

They've also got a bunch of dates lined up in the next couple of months. I have my ticket for the Aberdeen gig which i'm genuinely getting excited about already. Will be the first time I've heard them play.

    Re: The Phantom Band

My copy didn't arrive from Amazon today unfortunately, though I had a card from Royal Mail. Guess I'll be making a trip to the post office tomorrow...
