    Harry Potter

well, having seen the new film I just want them to hurry up and make the next two (or however many there end up being)! I'm not a die hard potter fan but I've read the books and find the stories pretty good fun and easy to read. Knowing there's more to come its a bummer and feel there's no actual conclusion to any of the films so far - a bit like knowing lord of the rings is 3 books/films and only at the end is it all successful and done - there's always a confrontation of sorts at the end but then you know its always leading on from there for next time.
That said I think this is probably the best HP film so far, narrowly ahead of the third one which was excellently directed by the same guy who did Y Mama and Motorcycle Diaries [first two were a bit too 'cuddly' but had Richard Harris (sad he died) and the 4th just jumped around to much, missed out what I thought were some of the best bits - especially with all the build up to the worldcup and then do we see any? no!!]
so; don't read below if you don't want too...

I was impressed how closely they managed to stick to what happens in the book in this one, particularly the details rather than just the underlying story of Voldemort going for the thingy in the ministry of magic. For such a hefty book its well crammed in to the film...a few things that maybe could have been included weren't - some exclusions I could understand but managed to get around pretty well, would have liked to see the hospital thats in the book (they would have met Kenneth Branagh's character if they had and the gravity of nevill's parents condition, would have brought his character's position into perspective), they could have used the weasely twin's mayhem a bit more but it was fun what they had, and it was odd the house elf was there but had no part beyond wandering around the house - in the book its his fault it all goes tit up at the end...but other little details that got put in were great, keeping the same actors all the time really works too - it struck me as the film went on that we're actually seeing these kids grow up,from ten yr olds until the last film's done. weird but true.
So, good film, good laugh...i think the world's about to go crazy with the final book release.

Thought it was good in the context of the book, which wasn't the best in the series. Didn't think the story flowed as well as the others, but then again neither did the book.
As with most harry potter books there are many plots & sub plots to deal with, but they kept the continuity of storyline well, at the expense of some of the more interesting sub-stories.

I would definately have enjoyed it more had i not read the book.

I have never liked Harry Potter. It all stems from my time working part-time in WH Smith and they tried to make me dress up as him with a stupid cloak, scarf and those daft specs, to promote the release of one of the books... *shudders*.

Needless to say, I told them where to stick those stupid glasses!

hehe dannyboy, nevermind. just enjoy the films for what they are eh.

OiD - yep, the subplots (those which they followed) were pretty well handled but being a film its hard to cram so many in to the alotted 2hrs 30mins (or what ever) whilst keeping the film going on. surprised you didn't think the story flowed as well as the others, i thought it was alright...just laughed everytime that caretaker guy came on!

to people who've read the book or know the answers: some questions - what was the doorway that guy fell through? did he die before falling through? or did the door kill him? also what are the things the blond girl talks about?

    @joshwa
The 'doorway' that sirius black (harry's godfather) falls through is in the book described as a veil in an archway. nothing more than that, though it is given with a mysterious air about it. In the book sirius is stunned and then falls back into the archway - behind the curtain - and disappears...essentially he's dead. In the film this is altered slightly as it appears he is fatally struck (through a spell) and as he dies staggers back into the archway. A bit different but the effect is still the same; he dies. The film doesn't seem to go into the grief of harry about it as much as the book does...oh well.

the things the blonde girl talks about aren't really anything. she's meant to be a bit odd in the book - and done excellently in the film - but the things she talks about are assumed not to exist outside her head (or fathers...). just a bit of fun I think but helps create the character for who she is

i am not the sort of HP fan but then I watch almost everything since I have the cineworld membership. i didnt really like this harry potter, i felt he was too sappy and too gay as usual. Its getting old the stuff they are showing. i think there should be more happening. never read the books so maybe that's why i didnt appreciate the lack of things to happen.

    Question?
So after they find out that the asian chick was forced using a truth serum then why didnt they like reconcile with her?

What I found slightly odd is the story's called 'The Order of the Phoenix', yet the whole storyline contained therein was completely glossed over.

Thought the film wasz the best yet, very dark even if they missed/glossed over so much of the plot.

Luna scared the bejeesus outta me and i hope to god i never meet anyone like her in real life!

I fancy Tonks, what a babe.

You can tell they're all getting old now, chiseled jaw, bumps showing etc, but overall thought it was pretty good.

Guess i got to take my daughter to see it now!

Order of the Phoenix was cheesy and failed to impress me much. Simple cash in affair. Spoiler below

I found it amusing that 7 teenagers just waltzed in the Ministry of Magic and raided the Department of Ministries without any sort of resistance or defense which was in the book.

Just watched this, which was weird after just finishing the last book.

I thought it was the best translation from book to film yet, although as usual there simply wasn't time to give it anywhere near the depth of the book. I still got the feeling that without having read the book first, there would be so many elements that don't make sense - like Mrs Figg who (I think) hadn't appeared in the other movies so other than adding some comic relief, didn't have the background she did in the books.

Some of the visual effects were superb, they really went to town on this one.

It's a shame the Order didn't really get much attention, the whole idea was just glossed over very quickly and for such a tasty looking actress I thought Tonks (Nymphadora) could have done with more screen time

Never. It's such an annoying way to go about hiding spoilers. I don't get what's wrong with making the text white or just putting a spoiler warning in the topic title when it's blatently going to be full of them, like this one.

There isn't a spoiler tag built into the forum -(at least as far as I know... ) - and this has been used since many of you where in nappies

But white text is more common, easier to use and just....better.
