    "Reverse Polarity" first oocurance ??

I remember phrase this in a very early sci fi film, and it seems to have taken hold in all sorts of modern stuff including Dr Who, ST and recently Stargate when Sam did it with the staff weapon crystal to enable dialing of the Asgard home galaxy (geek mode on).

Anyone else got any early references for this much venerated sci fi phrase ?

I'll tell you which film I remember after a few answers
    Cheers, David

It was Pertwee what said it in Dr Who (mostly anyway)

Forbidden Planet is 1956 which predates Dr Who I believe but it's so long since I've seen it I may be mistaken in it having it in it.

I remember Pertwee reversing the polarity all the time, though according to wikipedia he only reversed the polarity of the neutron flow once in The Sea Devils story, circa 1972.

Pertwee/Terrance Dicks is credited as the originator by tvtropes.

I certainly don't recall the phrase being in Forbidden Planet, but I might have missed it. Of course it most certainly does feature in the far more recent musical Return to the Forbidden Planet. Indeed, I recall assisting in this very procedure along with the rest of the audience

To anyone wanting to have a go at doing this for real, Yahoo has a solution, though more in the spirit of the original, this usenet thread seeks a particle physics resolution.
