I have a favourite film for most genres.

Horror: 28 Days later
Sci-Fi: The Matrix
War: Platoon
Gangster:Goodfellas
Action:Original Die Hard
Anime:Akira/Ghost In The Shell
Comedy:Airplane

etc etc

It has to be Godfather 1 and 2 for me, after that its probably LOTR Trilogy.

I don't have one particular film that is a definitive favourite, but theres no denying Shawshank is one of my top 5 (Possibly #1 as its a beautifully crafted film in every respect, script, character, etc)
I love many films, from LOTR trilogy, Back to the future, Star wars (ep 4-6), Toy Story 1/2, the Game, Saw, Seven, Bugs Life, Serenity, Musa, Taegukgi, Once upon a time in China 1-3, Robocop, Pirates of the Caribbean, Cool Runnings, Alien quadrilogy, AVP, Indiana Jones, Titanic, 50 first dates, one fine day, Blade trilogy, Back to the Future trilogy, I Robot, Die Hard trilogy, Predator, Cinema Paradisio, breakdown, Shrek, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, studio Ghibli, Pixar and Disney stuff, Harry Potter films.........

I have both, but they were never for public consumption. Home movies, um, 'nuff said.

Suppose I better be polite then,

The OP referred to "My best film". This was clearly a contraction meaning the film in the OP's opinion that s/he considers to be best film. You took the superlative to be applied to 'my film' rather than my film choice & inferred 'my' in that context meant film made by the OP. You had little more reason to do that than if the OP had been writing about my saddest film or my favourite film.

That's my claim & I'm sticking to it, as long as no one looks too closely.
