    Fairport Convention

Do they only have one good album?

I have "Liege & Lief" and this it's great, i love the whole medieval folk thing, but i also have "Journeyman's Grace" and "Rosie" but they aren't a patch on L&L.

If you haven't heard of Fairport Convention, don't worry. They are 1960s and 1970 folk. For some strange reason i quite like that kind of thing

Stick to the early stuff - Before Sandy Denny left. Excellent stuff, if a bit obscure.

What We Did on Our Holidays - January 1969
    Unhalfbricking - July 1969
    Liege & Lief - December 1969

    Great taste mate

Amazing to think he only released 3 albums. Pink Moon is probably one of my favourite all time albums. This gives you an idea of how popular he's got.

    Re: Fairport Convention

OK, so i bought "Unhalfbricking" by Fairport Convension.

I have to say I do like it. A Sailor's Life is haunting, and Cajun Woman following it is pretty uplifting.

    Thanks wither2000. I appreciate it.

What about Richard Thompson? 2 or 3 of his and excellent sort of stuff. If you like that sort of thing..

    Any specific recomendations?

I got a random Rory Gallagher album a while back and thought it was average, but i'm sure he has a couple of 'classic' albums.

    Re: Fairport Convention

Hey guys, you seem to know a lot about the band! I'm desperate to find a song from my childhood that i'm sure is by fairport however i don't know its name
From what i can remember, there is a very long, wavering, almost ethereal solo by some string instrument (violin, fiddle?) in the intro, which kicks into a more upbeat tempo-ed tune, not sure there is any singing- mainly instrumental i think.
If anyone thinks they may know which song i'm talking about, i would be made up Thanks!
