Hollywood running out of ideas ?
I've just read that they are rehashing the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise once again and giving the reigns to Michael Bay - the same chap who did the transformers movie.
Why is it they are now starting to churn out remakes of old classics ?
Have things really got that desperate now and they've ran out of ideas?
Re: Hollywood running out of ideas ?
they always had ideas but they don't want to risk it anymore - the stakes shot up as the Hollywood investment costs increased much higher than previous Hollywood films...
Re: Hollywood running out of ideas ?
usxhe hit the nail on the head. There's plent of ideas, but there's no need for them to bank on them.
Things like Nightmare on Elm Street have a fanbase, doesn't matter how good/bad the new one is, people will still go see it. Just a good investment for them.
It's a shame that we are getting less original content these days though. Still happens once in a while mind you.

I really hate the huge decline in good sci-fi movies. The best sci-fi I've seen in the last decade has to be the remake of BSG. That show is amazing, and it was, as far as I know, paid for mostly by bSkyb.
I wish they'd be more creative.... plently of movies have shown you can be creative without a huge budget over the years too. Cube spring to mind for it's amazing cheapness but fantastic creativity. Shame the 2 sequels sucked eggs mind!
I don't bother going to the cinema any more, most of it is total garbage. One of the GOOD films I saw at the cinema was a year or two ago, it really surprised me. Was called 'Running Scared' it was basically a re-hash of many old ideas, but it was done very well with plently of nice twists and clever story telling.
Hollywood might be able to make a nice return on re-makes of old films and such, but they'll never make the big gains they really want with it either. They've bled dry the sequels, prequels and re-makes for nearly every franchise now. 95% of them were done very badly. Most people are wise to their ways now... they need to pull their wallets out and start taking some risks!

Re: Hollywood running out of ideas ?
Why is it that the Americans have to do that with EVERY series, every film that they go anywhere near? The Office - crap US remake. The Italian Job - ditto. Get Carter - GET CARTER, FFS! - ditto, with Sylvester Stallone cast as Carter??? Life On Mars - being remade as American. Akira? How on EARTH can they transpose that to the US - it's quintessentially Japanese. I mean, obviously, they're going to, but they really, really, REALLY shouldn't.

Remake Nightmare???
Noooooooo!!!!
(Unless they get Robert Englund back of course!)
Re: Hollywood running out of ideas ?
Naaaaahhhh...last I heard, he was setting up a religious cult on Babylon 5... :D
Re: Hollywood running out of ideas ?
Looks like Robert's "standing aside" on the remake... shame indeed... I was hoping for FvsJ 2 :(
