Hmm...I would suspect that it will "wow" people with it's effects yet be devoid of the essence that makes GitS what it is.

I personally think they should just leave it well alone; Stand Alone Complex and Second Gig are very worthwhile series, adding a movie may or may nor complicate things.

I read about this a couple of months ago. If they can keep with the way Shirow envisioned the GiTS universe and have a good female lead then nothing should be able to stand in their way. If anything is wrong, then it will suck big time (Speed racer)

It depends on what the film will be based on. Will they add it to SAC/SG or will they make it a standalone (pun intended ) film that anyone can watch with having no knowledge of the series/films.

What i don't want to see is the situation that has happened to Battle Angel (Alita) by James Cameron, been years talking about it, even started pre-production but nothing has been heard since. Or even the NGE live action film, which is now dead.

Give us something the Anime fans will like please

If they really do make it...which GitS universe will they use OR like you suggest, in it's own right...

Can see the relation with between the series and movies in the above picture (blatantly ripped off from anidb.net).

I don't think you could ever please anime fans with a live action movie...look at the failed attempts with CGI movies such as Appleseed and Appleseed Ex Machina - visually fantastic, sound tracks amazing, story and characters just lacked what was in the manga...

Actually the WORSE thing they could do with the live action is base it on the anime/manga and go off and make some mish-mash that'll appease the mass public and irritate the anime/manga followers who see their favourite anime/manga get a Hollywood trashing.

Re: New live-action GitS film on the cards?

I'd rather not see it go into production, to be honest - there is nothing wrong with the GITS universe as it stands, and I do not believe a live-action GITS film caters for anything but a potential blockbuster crowd....at the same time potentially championing a box office flop.

The great thing about Shirows original manga, and to a certain extent what the animes provided, was a fantasy setting and characters that probably just won't work in live action - and I'd pity whoever was chosen to play the Major as it's possibly a character no one can act out. Each incarnation of the Major, form the manga, to the movies, to the series are different - and I see the live action incarnation being by far the worst, despite her character getting more sterile as SAC 1 and 2 went along. The best version was in the manga, unsurprisingly enough.

Without a proper Major, there is no GITS.
