    The Machinist

Anyone seen this film? I caught it on film 4 a while back and was blown away by it.
I loved American Psycho and kind of got caught up in a "must see films by Christian Bale" mode.

Shot in black and white, almost Hitchckonian and very film noir, Christian Bale lost 60 pounds in weight to play the skeletal insomniac, Trevor Reznick.

A co-worker loses an arm in a machining accident and Reznick (Bale) descends into a world of paranoia and delusions.

Can't really say much more as i would spoil it for those who have not seen it. But, if you are a fan of Mr Bale, this is essential viewing.

I'd not seen much else of his work but this film is brilliant. I rented it not really expecting much but it is really good. The depiction by Bale of a man driven crazy by guilt is quality acting and the story is well set out. Definitely worth a watch.

Thought it was very average. Certainly not a bad film and Bale played the part well, just didn't think the story / script was up to much.

Harsh i think but, i kind of know what you mean though. It's minimalist, and you get what you get and you don't! I think that's the point though, tacky, noir but not too obvious. Ok, it works with some, but not all.

And er, Starship Troopers fans, Michael Ironside is in this, all 2 minutes of him

I thought it was amazing, a top modern psychological thriller. I liked the fact it was filmed in Barcelona and made it look like an American city.

    Re: The Machinist

I think it's one of those films that is full of things you've already seen in countless other movies. However, it does it all very well, and is worth a watch for that alone.

Though, your tv settings need heavy tweaking if you think the film is in black & white. It most ceetainly isn't, it's just very desaturated.

I found it quite good, very dark, but captivating none the less!
