Anyone read about this film yet? just saw an advert for it yesturday, i like vin diesel but is it worth watching? looked good but trailers always do that.
I've found a couple of reviews - overall opinion seems to be that it's rubbish.
Well im goin to see it tonight as its only £2.75 a ticket at my local cinema so its worth a look, ill post back here to say if its worth watching or not, not great on doing reviews on films so will give it a rating out of 10 and just a general opinion.
Well just got back, its an OK film but its not great. I found it to be like the transporter films but without the good action(love transporter), vin diesel in this film was the saving grace imo. I wouldnt recommend buying this on dvd but renting it would be, effects are good but there isnt much action as it makes it out there is in the film.
I would give this film a 5.5/10,.
saw it last night quite rubbish to be honest. too shaky cuz they didnt wanna show the slow action fighting scenes and the story doesnt really go anywhere, didnt like it one bit would give it a 1/10
I like Vin Diesel and seems decent. Plot sounds rubbish, and ratings are poor. Hmm, do i or dont i?
I went to see this film and found it to be ok, maybe it was something to do with deeper meanings but i found that i didn't quite understand it.
Was really dissapointed with this film. Matthieu Kassovitz is a great director, but the studio really butchered this film! It felt like an abridged version, stripped down to the bare minimum and it just didnt work well because it was never intended to be that kind of action packed fast film they tried to force it into. It's a shame because it's a great concept, and I loved the Bladerunner kind of bleak future feel and could see what the director had intended, but it's going to have to wait for the Director's cut to finally be released before we can actually see that and properly judge it.
Some info about what happened:
"Based on the novel by Maurice Georges Dantec, La Haine director Mathieu Kassovitz developed Babylon A.D. for over 5 years, before filming began in the Czech Republic in early 2007. Un-cooperative weather, and constant clashes between Kassovitz and distributor 20th Century Fox, forced the production to go over schedule, and over budget.
The Fallout: 20th Century Fox stepped in during post production, and delivered a confusing 93 minute cut, which was slammed by critics and bombed at the box office. Both lead actor Vin Diesel and Kassovitz denounced the finished product, with Kassovitz going so far to call it a "bad episode of 24"
And what the director actually said:
"Here's what the director had to say at AMC's Blogs.
"I'm very unhappy with the film," he says. "I never had a chance to do one scene the way it was written or the way I wanted it to be. The script wasn't respected. Bad producers, bad partners, it was a terrible experience."
The film, starring Vin Diesel, is an adaptation of the French novel Babylon Babies by Maurice Georges Dantec. It tells the story of a mercenary (Diesel) in the year 2019 who is hired to transport a woman and her guardian from Eastern Europe to New York. "The scope of the original book was quite amazing," says Kassovitz. "The author was very much into geopolitics and how the world is going to evolve. He saw that as wars evolve, it won't be just about territories any more, but money-driven politics. As a director it's something that's very attractive to do."
Diesel emphasizes the movie's theme of smuggling people across national borders. "This whole thing that's happening in Georgia right now is so fresh that no one has even asked about it yet," he says. "We're coming into an age where borders are closing, and I think that our society will be numb to it because of our freedom in the virtual world, our freedom in the Internet."
But according to Kassovitz, Babylon A.D. fails to deliver any of these messages. "It's pure violence and stupidity," he admits. "The movie is supposed to teach us that the education of our children will mean the future of our planet. All the action scenes had a goal: They were supposed to be driven by either a metaphysical point of view or experience for the characters... instead parts of the movie are like a bad episode of 24."
