Guns and Roses - Chinese Democracy
Hey peeps,
has anyone bought this yet?
I picked it up yesterday in HMV and Im actually quite surprised. There was no way it was going to live up to all the hype I dont think even if they had god on drums and jesus on bass they could have lived up to that hype.
But if you can forget that its cost 5 billion dollars and has taken 389,000 years to make and that during the gestation period there have been 173 different guitarists involved in the recording then its not a bad album. It sounds like Guns and roses and Axl hasnt changed much over the years. The songs are pretty good and have some brilliant riffs throughout.
Its not gonna change the world and its not gonna be top of anyones best ever album lists but its actually a pretty good album :D
Re: Guns and Roses - Chinese Democracy
I listened to some of it on the way into work in the car. Sounds overproduced & nowhere near as edgy as past offerings from G&R. Will keep the hardcore fans happy no doubt.
Indifferent. :|
Re: Guns and Roses - Chinese Democracy
I haven't heard it and probably won't, never been a GnR fan.
However, this review was linked from another forum. Made me laugh a lot.

Re: Guns and Roses - Chinese Democracy
Very disappointing tbh - no Slash = no GNR's
Re: Guns and Roses - Chinese Democracy
As I said its not the greatest album ever made and maybe it is a bit overproduced but its a good listen :D A lot better than some of the ****e out lately.
Re: Guns and Roses - Chinese Democracy
Very much overproduced and a very different sound - but not half bad really.
Half way through my first listen - and it's still on.
Unique voice, unique ego.
Re: Guns and Roses - Chinese Democracy
I saw Axl Rose and his G'n'R cover band play quite a few of these songs at Donnington a couple of years back and while they're not bad songs it's not really G'n'R, the attitudes not there.
Re: Guns and Roses - Chinese Democracy
I saw them back in the day at donnington (the year a couple of folks died in the crush) - and as you say quite a different proposition ;)
Bit more listening - god it's self indulgent though - it really does sound like he's spent 15 years remixing it..
Think I prefer the latter half of the album thus far. He's better when he's pissed (IRS) rather than in slightly-disconcerting-ballad-mode.

IRS and Better were the best tunes I remember them playing live to be fair as for the album that's what happens when you give a musician 15 years, a mixing desk and no real deadline.
