    Re: The Anime Thread :)

Watching Kimi ni Todoke, 11eyes and DTB S2 this season. Might check out Winter Sonata when it comes out too. Not exactly the best season to me but here are my opinions on these:

Kimi ni Todoke - Just your usual romance, quite funny at times. Art style is ok I guess but nothing fancy. At least it isn't some harem stuff.

11eyes - There's a lot of girls running about and you get quite a lot of pantsu. It's mainly about some characters with powers that keeps being teleported to an alternate dimension with a Red Moon and tons of monsters. Looks like Chaos;Head in a way and I like those type of anime xD Could do without the pantsu though as I'd rather watch something like Princess Lover for that.

DTB: S2 - I don't really remember much from the first season so kinda forgot what's going on xD Has Hei/BK-201 running about killing stuff again so that's cool. Hopefully the storyline is good

Winter Sonata is meant to have a really good storyline with romance so I'll watch it if someone subs it lol.

Still continuing with FMA: Brotherhood and the storyline is interesting as always. During the summer I caught up with the main arcs of Naruto Shippuuden (I skipped out the filler arcs) and the storyline is getting good as usual and we're learning quite a lot now, Pain and Jiraiya's past etc.

New series, Kamfer. Seems quite amusing. Story is about a guy who enters some fighting competition; the caveat being only girls can compete and so...when he goes into fighting mode, he turns into a girl. Right now, he has no idea how to control when or how he switches. Provides a few yucks and is lining itself up to be a run of the mill fighting/harem/gender bender comedy. Think Ranma 1/2, then tone down the humour. Well that's all I can get from episode 1. I can imagine situations of girl(really boy) on girl action. Already there is a silly "love" polygon...I should re-phrase that...lust polygon.

One bad aspect of Kamfer is the unoriginal artistic drawing of the characters. Now unless this is supposed to be a parody, it's like taking some bad attempts at hiding that the character drawings were ripped off from other series.

Update to Umineko no Naku Koro ni: So I am slowly getting to grips with the story and right at this moment, I don't want to watch the same "closed room" murders repeating again. I do hope with the introduction of a key character (Ep14) that this game between Battler and Beatrice progresses beyond re-killing various people in some game of wit...
Kampfer seems to be pretty crap so far - usual 14 year old schoolboy dream of being transported to a place where HOT chicks are lusting after him, for whatever reason - only boy in a dorm full of girls - only boy in a temple full of girls - only boy in a shrine full of girls - transfer student to a new school inhabited by HOT girls that find him strangely mysterious (or in this case the only boy in the girls half of the school).... the Kampfer (Fighter) bit went out of the window, and now there's all kinds of girls just fighting to be "his" (or Hers)... and the Fan Service is bad too

    Re: The Anime Thread :)

Well I kinda stopped watching the latest stuff and did a back-to-back marathon of Gundam 00 Season 2. Not the best Gundam series but enjoyable none the less. There are the usual bits that make you go "wtf?" and bits of cheese BUT I do like the homage to the RX-78 in the form of 0 Gundam. Again the writers, I feel, missed out on alot especially with the other Gundam meisters and expanding their background and progressing them as characters and I was soooo hoping to see Soma/Marie get in some modded ass-kicking Gundam again...you know the usual ultra cool pink gundam...like in Seed with the Pink Zaku II (I think) or in series 1 of 00 when Soma had her special Pink Gundam.

Also caught up with White Album (in a love/hate relationship with that anime) and also Asura Cryin'. I feel rather disappointed at the latter show...it's chopping through the story and it's too rushed. Could have been much better if they slowed it down at times and explained a few things or developed some characters more.

Ahh can't forget "Kiddy Girl-and"; I don't know why but I like it...stupid as it may sound I like this idiotic show.

Re:Kamfer - I'm not soo keen on it but I'll stick with it as I'm (suspecting) half way through the series already.

Also along similar lines is Nyan Koi, though I am weirdly drawn to the show...don't know why....*Neko-mimi FTW*

I've got a backlog to watch at the mo. Either Gasaraki, Dai-Guard or Martian Successor Nadiesco. On the cards today are Karas 1 & 2 and Steamboy. In between signing on

LoL!!! You will love Gasaraki and what I term the "chicken dance". It happens quite a few times - always makes me laugh.

DEFINITELY watch Martian Successor Nadesico! Fantastic series (I can't remember if the movie was that good). Guarantee you will enjoy the series, 0iD.

Oh and Gundam 00 movie in 2010...can't wait ooo and not forgetting Bandai announced (quite a while back now) that they will make a series/OAV based on the Gundam novels that has RX-0 Unicorn Gundam in...going to be fantastic.

Oh and thinking of Karas, I think there are 5 or 6 episodes so if it's just eps 1 and 2 you have, you may be left wanting more by the end of it.

    Re: The Anime Thread :)

Bit of a useless bump but...

Anyone can think of anything similar to Tenchi Muyo series to watch? I'm kinda bored waiting for Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari to finish airing/released...and it's also, a side story or alternate universe (seeing as it's based on Tenchi's younger brother or cousin....not worked it out yet ).

Ahh and no more suggesting Tenchi Muyo related...most likely I've seen it.

Just fancy an anime with a passive yet super powerful dude in a stupid harem type situation with a sci-fi or fantasy world setting...so think El Hazard....but I've already seen that.

Gasaraki is indeed ace, took a few episodes to get into, but loving it.

Plus a bit of bargain hunting's got me:

Death Note Re-Light : L’s Successor TV Special ENG DUB
Gurren Lagann TV 1 - 27 ENG SUBS
    My-Otome (aka Mai-Otome) TV 1 - 26 ENG SUBS

Watched Steamboy again yesterday & loved it all over again. The mix of Victorian England & Steampunk is novel, added to a good plot well told makes for a highly recommended movie.

I think it's in Gasaraki that they use H.E.S.H. rounds (High Explosive Squash Head) as special ammo in one of the "mechs".
Mai-Otome...hrm...from memory I think that this is an alternate universe to Mai-Hime or set sometime further in the future....still good though There is an OAV (or OAD) called Mai-Otome 0 which precedes Mai-Otome which I have been led to believe is good. Again i could have it slightly wrong as I am trying to recall from memory.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is marmite; some people love it, others hate it. Give it a whirl and see what ya think.

There is a follow up OAV to Shakugan no Shana the Second called Shakugan no Shana S which I hope will be good. Keep an eye out for it.

Also, if you are a Macross Frontier fan, the movie is out soon, or is already out although I've been told the movie is a remake of the series....just condensed down.

I'm expecting To Aru Kagaku no Railgun to get a US/UK release...well I can't see why it wouldn't as it's a pretty good anime.

    Vexille: Movie.
It's about how one day Japan closes itself off to the rest of the world and carry on developing "stuff" whereas the rest of the world were like "oh-noes, that not be good shizzle to dizzle, yo". Hence a team get sent in to infiltrate Japan and find out what is going on...

Sorry for the random blurb, but I didn't know how to explain the film without accidently putting in spoilers.

It is a good film, not fantastic and would personally rate Appleseed CGI films above it. Well the first one at least.

I so want a UK/US release of Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari...if only for the one scene of Kenshi kicking butt in his white bio-mech thing (Seikishi, I think they are called?).

EDIT: Here is the official blub on the back of the case.
In the early 21st century bio-technology evolved drastically to improve the quality of human life but with it came an international agreement from the United Nations to restrict the use and make it safe.
Japan object to this proposal leaving the UN no choice but to close the doors to Japan on the rest of the world.
To discover what really lies within it's borders, United States intelligence sends Commander Vexille and her special force unit known as SWORD to investigate. Slipping in under enemy radar Vexille uncovers several mysteries and must fight to contain a deadly threat to stop our world from falling apart.
The creators of APPLESEED gather once again to create a story full of action that moves at breathless speed and a future that might already be right on our doorsteps...

    Re: The Anime Thread :)

    Cheers dude

Applseed Ex Machina being the first one I take it? If it's similar to that I'll be happy tbf, I don't watch much anime (only ever really got into GiTS and Hellsing) so big robots and plenty of random gunfire is usually enough to keep me happy I just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting into another epic

It's not essential to have watched both/either Appleseed movies before watching Vexile, it's a pretty good movie all on its own

    Re: The Anime Thread :)

Ex-Machina was film number 2. I prefered film number 1, Appleseed (2004). Perhaps I'm just biased but I loved the sound track too.

Big Robots + Gunfire? Perhaps check out Gundam 00 (it's not as emo as Gundam Seed) OR you could go for Gundam Wing...

You might also like Asura Cryin' once that gets a proper outing in the US/UK. You get a dude, his ghost girlfriend/friend, a girl (who is actually a demon) and a giant robot, whose name is, I think, Kurogane.

Oh..how could I forget, Macross Plus for some big robot/plane action. The movie is good enough and find is better than the 4 OAVs purely as I find the OAVs dragged.

Hmm there are a few titles on the first post that you would like..maybe. RahXephon, Argento Soma...I think the action section is for you.

How have I gone this long and missed this thread?

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but even if it has is deserves being mentioned again IMO
    Planetes aka PlanetES http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetes

If you're after big space battles, this isn't it, however it is exellent sci-fi about rubbish collectors in space.
Ok that sounds bad but it's not, there's some good underlying world & corperate politics in the story and the whole thing is well thought out.
And the artwork and animation is very good too.

Another intresting one is Flag http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_anime
It's a realy nice blend of cgi and traditional animation, it's a civil war story set in a made up euroasian country
But it's all told through the point of view of war corrispondants.
Again sounds odd but is very good.

EDIT: Big robots and gunfire, check out Gundam 0080 think that'smy favourate of the gundam stuff I've seen
EDIT: opps getting mixed up, 0080 is good but the one I ment was The 8th MS team

PlanetEs is found uder "Drama" on post 1. One of my fave animes. The girl who lives on the moon is a really touching story. You're right though, the blurb doesn't do the show any justice whatsoever; the show covers the reality of space and the toils of a few space junk/garbage collectors.

Not seen much of the "classic" or "U.C." universe Gundam shows...need to get my finger out and start watching them. Some of the gunplas are awesome.

I wasn't sure of Flag...heard mixed views on it and decided to skip it but I'll have a look at it seeing as you like it.

    Re: The Anime Thread :)

Must admit I didn't get all the way through Flag, something about it just didn't catch, that and I got diverted by Rurouni Kenshin again.

I actually prefur some of the shorter series as you can spend far too long watching the longer ones.

Oh I must catch up on . . . ummm . . . ok that's bugging me now, the name of it sounds like it'd be some henti thing but it's not and is actually very good.
A high school boy who can see spirits (and they constantly annoy him) then he meets a witch/socress who has a shop where she grants wishes (but always with a cost) I've seen the first series but I know there's a nother one out.
