    Watchmen > Dark Knight
    Rorschach > The Joker

Not as accessible as Dark Night, but more of an adult film, with a lot of darker, more serious themes.

    Re: Watchmen

THe thing is the novel itself can get confusing and has to be read a few times to fully understand it. If the film has been made so that each new watch will reveal new stuff then thats good imo

    Re: Watchmen

I think it would have been pretty good to have seen that without reading the book. Problem is you see a lot of the things that you would probably catch a second or third time round because you know what to look for.

I've had a look at the novel and it seems some of the music choices are based on those short quotes at the end of each chapter. I'm even more confused about it now though, is that a good or bad reason to choose a song.. Certainly didn't fit very well in the traditional sense of a soundtrack/score.

    Re: Watchmen

I saw this with a friend of mine, she'd been really looking forward to it, neither of us where *that* impressed.

Yes it was nice that they didn't even try to use specail effects to amaze or astound us, but something was lacking, it just didn't captivate me. I'd watch it again if it was on tv, but i wouldn't buy the dvd.

One of the things i found most striking was the lack of any original composoistion, the score was all a collection of famous peices of music. This really didn't help because there was no continutity, as anyone who's ever listened to peter and the wolf will tell you music is an incredible part of tieing together a story, and can be so simple, reserving an instrument, melody or even entire sections of an orchestra for each protagonist really helps tie the emotional journey together for me.

Its a definate 6 out of 10 for me, underwhelemed, disapointed, and would like my £18 back!

    Re: Watchmen

Daily Mail quote is a bit OTT, although it was pretty violent in places.

I really enjoyed the film, although I don't think it works well as a single movie - it's too long, and a lot of what the graphic novel was about (not the plot) was lost in favour of (admittely awesome) action sequences.

I agree about the soundtrack, was a weird mixture of random pop culture songs, a lot of the time it sort of broke the suspense.

Also, the sex scene. Need I say more?

I will get the DVD though, looking forward to the extras The Tale of the Black Freighter voiced by Gerard Butler! This is Spaaaaarta!

I feel like the daily mail reivew is somewhat personal lol, such as harsh words from them at the end.

Can't fault the action sequences in the movie, just awesome but the sex scence, meh, it was like watching a cheap pron movie.

    Re: Watchmen

Saw it last night and I am still confused as to whether I actually enjoyed it.

The special effects were great with some well done fight scenes but I felt an overall sense throughout the whole film that something was missing.

I too agree that the lack of an original score was quite perplexing and although there was some good use of Philip Glass in the atmospheric parts, I was left feeling a bit short changed by the whole experience.

And did it really need to drag on that long without really coming to a proper conclusion? It felt like much longer than 2 hours.

I think I will have to watch it again when it comes out on DVD to try and understand really where the whole film was getting to but honestly at the moment I still can't work out if I enjoyed it.... And yes the porn scene was not much more than a bit of tug-material over Malin Akerman.

    Ben

p.s. Oh and does anyone actually read film reviews from the tabloids for anything other than a joke?

    Re: Watchmen

I don't read tabloid reviews at all.. apart from the one linked obviously.

I've thought about watching it again and came to the conclusion that I really don't care about this movie... at all. I was really excited about this movie, I wanted to see just what it could do with the original story.. but it wasn't what I wanted.

As such, I found the best way to describe my feelings about it was like this..
