    Watchmen

So far this year, the only 2 films I've wanted to see at the cinema are Gran Torino (saw it last weekend - very very good) and Watchmen.
The trouble is that the TV trailer is making Watchmen look more like a Batman/Ironman type movie, to appeal to the just-post-pubescent-crowd, rather than the more meaningful movie it should be.
However, I'm still going to see it, and hope the adverts are just trying to drum up Joe Sixpack numbers.

I considered getting the novel prior to seeing the film, but I thought I'd wait until after I've seen it. I'm hoping I'll enjoy it more not knowing what's going to happen, if you know what I mean.

    Re: Watchmen

From what I can make out the movie strays from the novel anyway. The graphic novel is amazing, I have lost count the amount of times I have read it over the last 8 years.

    Re: Watchmen

Tbh, apart from the very end from what I can tell it looks very close to the original.

I mean they've removed the Black Freighter stuff which probably would have made the movie a little hard to follow anyway, but they have done a DVD of it to acompony the movie.

    http://www.imdb.com/media/rm266504960/tt0409459

this still fills me with hope and there are loads more which are simply lifted from the novel onto film. I'm really looking forward to it.

Oh and it's supposed to have been made an 18, so no riff raff in the cinemas this time like dark knight

Been ignoring anything about this film (another childish superhero film) but just seen the trailer this and noticed the '18' certificate. Now I'm interested!

Careful, I'd edit that post unless you want a tonne of fanboys jumping down your throat The reason I just bought the comic (and I've never read a comic before) was because it is so highly regarded.
Time Magazine put it in it's Top 100 Novels of the 20th century

    Re: Watchmen

Film looks like it will be a winner - trailers make it look very deep and seedy (just like the novel which I read last month). Totally looking forward to this!

    Re: Watchmen

I'm desperate to see it but having read a couple of reviews it sounds like it may not quite live up. A 4 hour version on the DVD might sort that out though

    Re: Watchmen

I bought the graphic novel last year and thouroughly enjoyed it. I can understand removing the black freighter part as Mike said because there are people who would get confused of the 2 stories going on at the same time.

Will be interesting to see how they manage the mars parts.

Ooh forgot to mention, the motion comics for both Watchmen and Black Freighter are available on Blu-ray. They're getting pretty good reviews as well, so I may invest

    Spoilers ^^ lol

They look amazing in the advert so I'm hoping for a visual feast in that bit if not all of it tbh..

Yeah I saw the motion comics, certainly might invest in that.. not blu ray though..

    Only a small spoiler though

Only sad thing about it is that Alan moore doesnt want anything to do with it. In a way you can understand why after the way his other books have been shafted by hollywood but you`d think he`d want to make sure this is done justice
