I also thought that Part 3 rescued it, it was much better written and overall i'd gotten very worried about the 'reality' it had gone into. Despair squid - slightly predictable, but at least it was very Red Dwarf.
I still cant work out if i miss the laughter track or not though - i dont like the idea of being told when i should laugh, and think that in time i'll adjust (on re-watching).
I'm commenting on an internet forum. Your facts hold no sway over me.

The laughter would have spoiled the whole 'what's real' pseudo solipsism that they were trying to get across (in typical RD fashion).

    Re: Red Dwarf Returns

A couple of things i don't get with the back to earth episodes.

Rimmer, what on earth is he doing as a hologram? he didn't die at the end of series 8. This clip found on youtube shows a finale for series 8 that wasn't shown at the time.

Also the idea that Kochanski would rather leave the ship to spend the rest of her life alone than with the crew after dumping Lister is a bit tenuous at best.

The show in the past has ignored a number of things from previous series though and i suppose it's sticking with that tradition.
Although i quite enjoyed the 3 episodes can't help feeling a little disapointed with it, sometimes it's best to leave it alone rather than try and return and create a finale that was too short and clutching at way too many straws.

presumably any unanswered questions will be weighed off as happening in season 9 as they mentioned season 9 alot in the 3 episodes (which threw me for a minute)

i thought it was a good 3 episodes not as good as the early series but a good send off nonetheless

Can I just say I wish it hadn't returned. That is all.
