    Re: Harry Potter

I thought that visually, great. Panoramas were nice, good flybys and panoramas and so on. Music was good too, standard film score stuff, but did its job.

Story, well they butchered some of the best bits for starters. The whole half blood prince thing wasn't explained particularly well, Hermione is supposed to suss it out at the end to tie up any questions. Also, the poison curing with the Bezoar was woefully ambiguous. In the book harry notices it and that explains why he remembers to use it. In the film everyone is amazed, etc etc. Perhaps i missed it, or maybe it was a deleted scene, but it was a bit pants.

I felt they spent far too much time concentrating on the lovey dovey relationship side when they should have spent far more time emphasising how dark the plot is supposed to be getting.

    Re: Harry Potter

Well in all fairness there wasn't that much lovey dovey stuff and Harry at the least won't get much of a chance now having lost out on the bulk of his relationship in this movie. The end wouldn't make much sense without that relationship lol

I call for a remake! The funeral being left out was a joke tbh but thats cause they haven't really shown how close he was with all the students and the rest etc. Also schrimigeour (canny spell his name) was meant to approach harry at the end asking for his help too. It also left out fudge meeting the pm too. And as for the wedding they will def leave it out seeing as the house is now gone (that never happened, wheres the spook in the attic that is meant to replace ron in the last film now?)

    Re: Harry Potter

Doesn't JK Rowling retail creative control over the films?

If thats is right, then it's up to her. If she wan't the film changed, then what's the problem.

Douglas Adams had it right with The Hitchhikers Guide, he wrote slightly different versions for each of the four mediums it was presented in: Novel, Radio play, TV and Film. He wrote the lot. The film didn't follow the book religously because he didn't want it to.

Remember, the last book is two films, so there is a lot more time for them to deal with the story. Perhaps some of this book will end up at the start of the next film?

There was no need to keep the funeral, its not that important to the story. As for the Minister Of Magic. He first approaches Harry at the Weasleys over Christmas. Again there was no need for the PM scene, it would just have wasted time.

The issues i have with the film in general is the addition of things that didn't happen in the book, or changing events by using a different char. Tonks found Harry, not Luna. wtf happens to Longbottom? The major issue is the lack of any sort of battle in Hogwarts at the end, it just seemed unfinished without it.

Having read plenty of books that get turned into films, i don't expect to see the whole book on the screen, what i do want to see is the film makers being more faithful to the books and not changing for the sake of changing.

I just think its a shame that a film with such a big budget couldn't do it right. Kick in the balls for the followers of the book that made it what it was too.

    Re: Harry Potter

    SPOILER ALERT

Taken from another site which sums it up

for a nearly 3 hour long movie, they left out

    1. the entire characters of bill & fleur.

    2. remus & tonks entire relationship (they are just "together" with no explanation, but tonk's hair is inexplicably brown. the only reason it is brown in the book is b/c she is heartbroken over remus).

    3. the explanation of Voldermort's past, his mother, Marvolo Gaunt's ring (became "a ring that belonged to his mother") and the explanation of the what the horcruxes might be (how the hell is harry going to find them if he has NO IDEA WHERE OR WHAT THE MIGHT BE?!) Also...how did they know the horcrux was in that cave? They made no mention of Tom Riddle taking the children down there. So apparently, he just loves caves and Dumbledore somehow knows this. And why does Dumbledore have Tom Riddle's memories instead of other people's and his own like in the book?! That also made no sense!!

    4. they added a pointless scene, although cool, it was pointless, where the burrow burns down.

5.they left out the prime minister part and made it so Harry was hitting on some hot girl instead.

6.they dumbed down the character of lavender and made her seem like a total nutcase and also didn't make it clear that Ron & Hermione were seriously fighting.

    7. they MADE NO MENTION OF HARRY getting in trouble when he performs "sectumsempra" on Draco...

    8. which leads to him not getting detention or missing any quidditch matches so his first kiss with Ginny is in the room of requirement, with Ginny acting like a total weirdo. My boyfriend thought she was possessed and was going to try and hurt him during this scene.

    9. The ending basically SUCKED. no big fight!!! WTF else was it leading to . I expected the main part of the book to actualy happen! When Dumbledore dies everyone lights their wands like they are at a concert, waving them in the air. And then it cuts to Harry and Hermoine having a stupid conversation on the top of the tower.

    10. They've already ruined it for the deathly hallows. The ring was such a non-issue, with no coat of arms. And it appears that when Harry goes into to Dumbledore's office in the end (with no explanation of why...?) DUMBLEDORE'S WAND IS JUST LAYING ON THE DESK. WTF.... crucial part in the 7th book. Thanks warner brothers.

I have no clue why the idiots who work for Warner Brothers thought they could write a better story than J.K. Rowling. SERIOUSLY....why change it?! IT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE THIS WAY.

i was so excited for this movie--i waited months. I was even okay when i saw the burrow getting burned down in the preview. i was like "okay, they added a few things for the big screen...." but when I saw the movie i was so disappointed.

A list of why it wasn't good for people who are into the books

    Re: Harry Potter

Yeah I read it again last week.. have to agree they missed more than I originally thought. That said they've changed all the books so I don't see why Hallows will be any different, I still think a lot of the back story is to come in flashbacks but who knows.. a wait and see I guess and you know we're going to have to watch it

    Re: Harry Potter

Saw it in the IMAX 2 days ago. I really really enjoyed it, the 3d stuff was excellent, the action scenes at the start with the death eaters was absolutely riveting, the scene with the,,

ok, that was about it .

Now we get to the bit where I admit that not only have I read the books, but I have several times, and even though I do enjoy the films, I think you have to look seriously at why the books have so much appeal.

IMO, its character, Rowling does character very very well, Dumbledore is a delight (Harris had it, Gambon.... no , sorry, but no) The main characters are represented, but the interaction between the main character (that would be Mr Potter) and the subsidiary characters relies very much on all of the characters being involved. In the books this is possible, but in the films, especially the latest, there is a distinct lack of camaraderie or even a sense of caring about the people that sadly didnt actually feature in the film. That would be Dobbie, Bill, Fleur, Tonks , Remus, everyone at the ministry of magic, Ginny (yes she was there, but didnt really feature, sadly).
Voldemort may have been the enemy, but erm, we got a couple of flashbacks and no sense of impending doom, Bellatrix was fantastic, really really fantastic, the best witch since Willow went a little dark side in Buffy, but yet, still a bit part in a long long film.

I did enjoy the film, but its not, by a long shot, anywhere close to the book.

The last film I went to see was The Dark Knight, imo the best film I have ever seen at the cinema, and the 2nd best film i have seen (gotta love The Crow),so maybe my expectations were a little high, but even though I think that Daniel Radcliffe nails Harry Potter (cept the hair), i dont think i would go out of my way to see this again.

just on a more sinister note, did anyone else find it rather disturbing that Dumbledore farmed Harry out to Slughorn for grooming.....

    Re: Harry Potter

Was really hoping for the hogwarts battle to be longer, they barely showed it!
Otherwise was a good movie, very well directed. I still preferred the fifth one.
