Ridley Scott to direct Alien Prequal

Lots of buzz regarding a possible prequal for Alien, directed by Ridley Scott. If it happens i'm glad R.Scott is rumoured to be onboard, but i can't help but think they should let it rest. I'm not a fan of prequels, they more often than not spoil a good set of successful films, with no other goal other than to milk the last from the franchise.

Some good points made on this site surrounding the credebility of a film that predates alien.

    Personally i'm sceptical, your thoughts?

Re: Ridley Scott to direct Alien Prequal

very interesting read! thanks for the links. personally I'd love to see a prequel or more insight in to the alien background, totally get your points about franchise being milked, and just letting it rest.

Potentials there though, maybe they could pull it off. And if Scot is on-board?

I know it's slightly distanced, but the AVP franchise had the potential to be so good, but yea

Re: Ridley Scott to direct Alien Prequal

They do so often make these films for the purposes of milking every inch and rarely have a good script. But you would think if R Scott is on board it's as they have a good script and budget to make it good.
Only time will tell though, could be worth keeping an eye on.

Re: Ridley Scott to direct Alien Prequal

as long as Jon Spaihts doesn't get his script ideas mixed up with that disney film he is also writing, then this new Alien film has my interest.

otherwise an alien film with a heartwarming feelgood factor thats fun for kids of all ages with a cliched happy ending, i think that would spoil it.

Re: Ridley Scott to direct Alien Prequal

I think it could be interesting. IIRC there were some graphic novels that explored the background of the race that the pilot of the original infected / incubating ship belonged to? (Edit - just reading the linked articles so yes, there certainly is a lot of other material out there to draw a prequel from)

Re: Ridley Scott to direct Alien Prequal

If they let him make what he wants to make and not have some committee full of suits deciding which demographic boxes need ticking or trying to crowbar it into a 15 rating yadda yadda, then it stands a chance of being really good. Just cant see it happening though.

So long as there is no humans in it - only the race that manned the ship the egg(s) where found.

IMO, it will be fine IF they do not make it a "Saturday afternoon, fill the cinema with kids" film......like they did with the AvP films.

Keep these films at 18 certificate, without the horror and suspense these types of films are crap.

Oh dont get me started on film certificates of late, make films a bit nicer/crappier so kids can watch them and then watch all the merchandise come out, yeah ok so everyones gotta make money but at the end of the day crappy films are good for nobody..

As long as it doesn't end up like the AVP2 where you needed to crank up the contrast to try and see what was happening in the film

I'll take whatever I can get from Ridley - 71 and he's still got the passion to deliver. If this rumour turns out to be true, I hope he doesn't spend too long tinkering with it.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good

He might have a passion to deliver but does that overide the passion to make money from selling kids toys..
