Harry Brown - imdb
Anyone else watch this film? I happened to have a couple of hours free on a Tuesday a week or so ago, whilst the missus and little one were off shopping, and decided to do a bargain Tuesday at the cinema and go to watch this.
I got in and sat down and then realised that I was the youngest one in this particular showing by about 20 years (and I am 31). I started to think I had got the synopsis confused.
Still, paid my money so stayed and watched.
Very happily surprised. The story of an elderly gentleman(retired marine) living in a shi%%y south London estate and his interactions with the local yobs. Without spoiling it for anyone, because I strongly advise you watch this, I was either on the edge of my proverbial seat the whole time, or sat there thinking how glad I am I don't live in the crappy parts of South London, which of course in reality, probably reflect many inner city estates.
The story evolves nicely and focuses on Harry Brown mainly, with interactions with various friends, yobbs and police, culminating in a very surprising ending, and not the one I was expecting.
The film does a good job to highlight the gang style violence spreading the country at the moment and shows just how bad it can get, with realistic news stories that unfortunately do not sound very far fetched at all.
Very well acted, very well filmed and the locations are so familiar it is scary.
Probably my favourite ever Michael Caine movie.
If I had to liken it to any other movie of recent years, I guess it would be easiest to liken it to an English version of Gran Tourino (Clint Eastwood).
I advise you to watch this film, just bear in mind its not a happy go lucky film and certainly not one for kids.
Cheers
Kip
