    Festival Virgin

53 years old and going to my first music festival this week. OK, so it's only a softie (Latitude), but hell, it's a start. And it looks like the weather is turning so it could be the full on real mud festival . Really looking forward to it, although not sure the back will cope with three nights camping anymore.

Hah, I remember my first festival back in 1980s. Wasnt rock, but folk, but the principle is the same. Once bitten, beware, you wont be able to get enough... OR you'll never want to do it again

We off to Shrewsbury folk fest again this year, best line up Ive ever seen at any folk festival.
    Cheers, David

I've been to Latitude, and it's a nice festival, compared to Reading at least, due to the type of people that go. Because it's not as big as Reading and has a more varied age range of people, you can actually get to the front for big bands easily if you want to. I wouldn't worry about the weather - when I went, it rained quite a bit, but there was next to no mud due to the sandy soil (or something). I do wish I brought more food though because it's expensive. I hope your back's OK, I usually take the bare minimum so a tesco value sleeping bag straight on the tent ground sheet with no pillow. Inflatable matresses and pillows are actually pretty comfortable.

    Re: Festival Virgin

Had a great time. Saw about 25 bands in full, mostly unknown ones (to me), all different types. Managed to get toward the front of some of the bigger performances (Florence, Tom Jones, The XX, The Feeling), but generally I was in the smaller venues. Some disapointments and some nice surprises. Didn't bother with the Ballet and Opera (although I like these) as performances looked decidedly second rate. The comedy was average at best.

Got there early so had a reasonable camping spot. Rowdy of course, but OK with ear plugs. Food was OK, not stupid money. Worst thing were the toilets....I had been warned, but my god . Also the total lack of respect for rules. People smoking in the venues etc. And the litter, some people are just pigs!

Next year looking at Isle of Wight.

most young girls who go to camping festivals, where there are a large amount of drugs n drinks on offer definitely do not come back virgins. No matter what they say.

But glad you had fun too.

The toilets are the worst bit, i take stuff to clear me out before i go, then stuff to bung me up when i go, i usually last till the last day at reading festival! Dire toilets unless you go inside arena!

Seconding this advice! It sounds horrible now but you'll really begin to appreciate it if you ever have to actually use the toilets at a festival (god forbid...)

    Re: Festival Virgin

Meh, maybe it's because I've been working near water treatment centres for the last few months but I really didn't care about the toilets at Download this year. Yes they smelled horrendous, and yeah occaisionally you walked into one in a horrible state, but provided you've got some TP to clean up with beforehand I don't see the issue any more. It's five minutes of your day, if that. Cowboy up and get it over with!
