    Re: Game of Thrones

Looking ahead (far ahead) what are peoples predictions for who will end up ruling Westeros? I reckon Jon Snow will end up on the throne with Daenerys Targaryen, assuming neither of them end up being killed off.

The question is open to book readers and non book readers, just don't say which you are as people may claim it's a spoiler

Daenerys seems a no brainer , and as much as I like littlefinger I suspect it doesnt happen -or at least not until later on in the books or even those yet to be written.

I dont see Arya ever being a ruler , but an assassin perhaps or some sort of vigilante making Lannisters lives hell - yes

I suspect there will be a big swing of balance in this hinted red wedding , but I dont see that being Rob stark as im pretty sure someone hinted he fails .

bah.. ok Im going to say at some point Tyrion gets on the throne , hes still my overall favourite and I think hes going through his own subtle transformation since his brush with death.

Tyrion & Varys together as team even better , I dont think there any that could outwit the 2 of them together ( at least while they remain friends ) so I say they will both find a way to help other - and that bond will serve them well.

I dont think Tyrion would mind if Jon Snow was on the throne or any of the Starks either tbh , its really the rest of his family that have issues , which suggest to me all of them go with the exception of Jamie .

The wild card in all this is not WW or even the Mance but the lord of light, I mean if hes god or demon , thats pretty big advantage , bit to whose end remains to be seen, afteall why would a God really care who rules ?

And if he does why not just take it himself ?

Read all the books too, luckily can't remember them so the TV series is still able to surprise me But now with only 2 novels left to be written, I do think that there *still* isn't any one contender that is destined for the throne.

Maybe GRRM will do something unexpected, like bring in democracy (starting perhaps from the Brotherhood) and a Republic.

Just been reading Mark Twain's 'A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court' and loved his demolition of the entrenched class system and ludicrous 'divine right of Kings'. I find it strangely repellent how all these self-appointed 'Kings' think nothing of their 'subjects' and just assume they're entitled to rule by dint of birth (ie luck). Daenerys is an honourable exception in some ways (eg releasing the slaves) and her 'divine' right appears to have strong supernatural support

    Re: Game of Thrones

yes but he worked at it , as did varys.

    @jimborae

read the books - I`ve retyped a paragraph 4 times now and given up as I`ll be accused of `spoiler` - the red wedding events have already been hinted at , the north is going to be a mess (why is mance the king?) and yet more people we know will die.

    and Tyrion is awesome.

    Re: Game of Thrones

Re being nobility; there aren't too many parallels with commoners becoming nobility in medieval history but the families who moved up from the middle ranks tended to overcompensate and try to behave even more nobly than the older, more established families once they were promoted to the upper echelons.. as the Wars of the Roses seem to be Martin's inspiration (at least in part) then look at the Woodville family for a good example (Elizabeth Woodville became Edward IV's queen.)

For me, when I see some of them like Littlefinger, I don't find them convincing as pseudo-medieval nobles.. I know it's quibbling but there you go (it's the same mechanism in my brain that makes me put down a fantasy novel if I look on the cover and think 'So how does he bend in that armour?' etc. etc.)

    Question Re: Game of Thrones

Quick thought: Wouldn't it be nice if Gods in the 'real' world were as useful as those in GMMR's? I mean the Lord of Light (LoL) actually brings people back from the dead (and for some reason gives birth to shadowy monsters ).

I'm sure more people would b beliebers, I mean believers then...

I mean LoL even convinced Dennis Pennis
