Spartacus is nowhere in the same league IMO , and while its true people will always promote what they like , I dont think you can argue against its popularity

    Spartacus
( as far as I can see has only won 1 award )

Perhaps you may not like it , but you should watch one episode IMO before judging at least .

Meh,Eastenders gets loads of awards too and is widely watched:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._by_EastEnders

Titanic was nominated for loads of awards and made shedloads of money.

Hence, popularity or even the number of awards won really means nothing.

Spartacus also gets very high ratings on IMDB on average too.

I saw two episodes of GoT when I have been over at mates houses and at least the two I saw seemed to have a lot of nudity and violence in it. Everytime I have been over to a mates place and they were watching it, I always seem to walk in on a sex scene, random nudity scene or someone getting hurt badly scene.

It does me remind of the way things were done in Idiocracy.

The theme music is good though, especially in this version done by Lindsey Stirling:

I might give it another go,but there are loads of series on my watch list,so it might be a while.

Well, each to his own I guess..

Everything Ive seen , seems justified to me and without violence there would be no threat / tension to build some of the plots... its not like some hack n' slash imo , in fact theres been very little battles or fighting at all .

The witty exchanges are far removed from crap that passes as Eastenders, your talking to someone who hasnt watched terrestrial TV and all that jazz since the late 90s .

Im pretty choosey in general and wont watch something for the sake of it ..

This has been my favourite cover so far , it along with the BoB have been the most epic moment so far, for me.

cat - just watch it , not 1 or 2 episodes , I would suggest watching season 1 (with sean bean) , then after 10 eps , come back and lets talk

It really does not do it for me. If it was looking for realism, maybe, but it isn't.

People have been trying to get me into for a while, but ultimately like with Spartacus, these series do make me think of Idiocracy, where they need to sell excessive nudity, sex and violence to make their story seem interesting and HBO is well known for doing this. Ultimately, this annoys me and sort of makes me think the people who make these series, think the viewer lacks imagination. Its like horror films, usually the ones which play with your mind more are the scariest, not the ones where they bisect people into a million pieces repeatedly. It just desensitises people. It must be because I am getting older, but perhaps I think of these series more like adolescent fantasies at times. I cannot take them seriously.

I might give it a gander at some point, but its not on the priority list.

    Re: Game of Thrones

he can come round mine and watch it on blu ray with some beer and a pizza....

I also watched `Spartacus` and ended up turning it off 300 meets porn doesn't do anything for me , and whilst there's boobs and more in GoT (and yes violence) , its not all the time and in your face. some of it (especially in ep1) is for plot , which is why I suggest watching a series to better understand whats going on.

ofc with GoT the characters change as they develop and the author isn't afraid to kill off `the big names` to further the story. get to close to some `truth` and you die. pick the wrong side in a battle - you die. piss someone off too much , you die. not lovely dovey high fantasy

I have to agree with CAT but then still say "it's a good set of programs".. while disagreeing with melon

I'm out of date on GoT.. still on old ones

Have seen series one and just started 2... there is far too much unjustified porn. It really is there for people to knock one out too....I know that knocking shops are part of life and that whores prolly need training.. and I know, without any doubt, that the bloke in the room next to the training room is quite possible enjoying a gobble from ome of the better trained girls while peering through the hole in the wall.. all of this is one short scene in season 2 first disc. But when a paying punter gets the hump cos the whore won't stop crying... and is given gobbler to look after him... the need for the knocking shop boss to wipe the girls lips of Rachels Organic Yoghurt and then her go straight for the tonsil tennis with disgruntled punter is, frankly, unrequired. The entire scene could have been done with style, subtly and no yoghurt, no noshing and no ... nerd porn.

    And to prove it.....

I shan't say any more than that Lord of the Rings held me in equal excitment for fantasy, Spooks did it for tension and story, Life on Mars for class.. and none felt the need to fill my screen with wat I can find online with a deft google.

I feel obliged to also say that the series is, without doubt, bloody genius. It brings a level of acting and British ness to a grand scale of a story. I lvoe it.

But it WOULD be WHOLEY better with just the odd nipple and a cut scene.

    Cool Re: Game of Thrones

I think it could have been done without the sex, nudity and swearing and maybe some of the violence (torturing etc) but then it'd be rather bland... it's just not the same sort of fantasy as LOTR, it's more gritty and 'realistic' (to a degree) and personally I think there's room for all kinds of fantasy fiction on screen. In fact the whole point of the books is grounded in the base instincts of humanity, the lust for power which usually encompasses other desires too...

I agree that the main protagonists are too 'perfect' and should have more scars and poxmarks (and fewer, if any clean teeth), though some of the minor characters are very unclean looking indeed

It certainly has absolutely nothing in common with the comic book Spartacus and why anyone would mention it (or the dire 300) in the same breath defies logic.

This second season hasn't had the same visceral impact of the first for sure, the opening scene with the WWs was terrifying (to me)... and set a very chilling tone. No other series makes you wonder who's going to survive the episode. Slight spoiler alert in case you haven't watched last ep. yet (hope u have a white background): I mean, I thought those 2 Second Sons were going to be interesting larger than life characters but shelf life in GoT is as short as it would have been in our Middle/Dark Ages

I agree, a different beast altogether .. personally I dont mind the porn as it seems to only exemplify the passions and lust every one has for power - there are no timid innocent adventures here , and even the allure of sex ( as Gendry discovered ) can have its consequences.

I only wish some of that Porn Zacks been engaged in was as good as this , from the little Ive seen the plots are terribly pre-dictable..

    Re: Game of Thrones

season 2 I felt took a little bit to actually ` get going` , IMO the second half of the season was better than the first.

and of course blackwater (with no boob count) was the best of the season
