Watched this on Saturday ...
I must admit i was pretty dissapointed with it ... was more of a modern E.T for me ..
well acted good S/FX but the film was just slow and a little boring.
I didnt hate it, however didnt excite me either .
6/10
I get the impression from the trailers that it would be entertaining but not fantastic. Maybe something worth renting later on.
I wasn't hugely bothered about seeing it, and hadn't really paid much attention to the trailers & blurb for it. Ended up going last night, and really enjoyed it. Despite the different plot, it had a bit of a Goonies feel to me, and the train crash was pretty excellent.
Not a perfect film for sure, and possibly a tad too long, but it was a decent story, well acted & generally I found it lots of fun for the most part.
Goonies meets Coverfield meets ET...
I thought they took a weird approach. They tried to make us sympathize with the alien having been captured and tortured, but it spent its whole time smashing things and people up.
A huge disappointment at the end, but I guess I should have known better than to expect anything else.
J.J Abrams = Great concept, good solid, believable characters a few twists and turns, but inevitably a **** ending.
Just look at Cloverfield or, (and it pains me to even mention this) Lost, I truly loved that show, but Abrams just couldn't help himself and totally f***ed up the finale.
J.J Abrams you can't write a good ending for toffee!!
Watched this last night. Not terrible, completely over the top scenes with the train crashing and the tanks in the town at the end shooting stuff. Ending could have been better. Quite liked the characters though.
7/10 wouldn't watch again good for a family.

Judging by all the comments it seems many of you were expecting something different than to what you got. It was supposed to have a very 80, E.T., Goonies feel about it as far as I'm aware. At least that's what all the reviews I read & heard said. Personally I thought it was a very good film and was in no way disappointed with what I got.
I'd be interested to hear what people were expecting and as for Lost having a crap ending... it seems you either love it or hate...me I'm in the "love it" camp.![]()
Two sci-fi heavy-weights.....one of them "king of the blockbuster".....
I was expecting one of the best sci-fis of the year!

I was looking forward to this film just because it was a steven spielberg film, but I was disappointed - I thought there would be more effects like Transformers - I found this to be rather lacking.
